Going back to the earlier Matilda performance, I noticed Oona's bit at the start is in a much higher key than how it's usually sung in the show.. does anyone know why they'd do that?
How f**king stupid do you have to be to not go to the microphone that the presenters just announced your win at?
Considering your mental state in the moment and the mammoth size of that stage and theatre, and a microphone set up right where you walk up to the stage, I'd say it's a pretty easy mistake. There should have been a better effort at ushering them to the correct microphone. I'd probably be so amped up on adrenaline, endorphind, booze, caffeine and Xanax, I'd walk into a camera, trip on the steps, go to the wrong microphone, drop an f-bomb, forget my speech and walk off left instead of right.
Jesus, they're just PEOPLE. It happens.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
It's really nice to see the Tonys spreading the love this year! Doesn't happen very often. Also, I'm shocked PIPPIN hasn't won more awards so far. I thought for sure it would take a few of the awards KINKY BOOTS did. This is gonna be a nail-biter right up until Best Musical is announced.
Oh, you've got to be kidding me. Hal Prince just introduced the longest running show in Broadway history and then they get up there and lip sync? What a joke.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
