We'll be in NYC at the end of July and have purchased tix for the following so far:
Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune
Hadestown
Moulin Rouge
To Kill a Mockingbird
Also planning to see Sea Wall/A Life and The Ferryman if it gets extended again. (Fingers crossed!)
We have one more slot available (two if Ferryman closes) and are considering the following:
The Prom
Tootsie
Oklahoma!
Would love to see What the Constitution Means to Me and Network but they're closing before we get there. Have already seen Harry Potter, My Fair Lady, Mean Girls, Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, Hamilton, etc.
"Oklahoma" got great reviews especially from NYT. Most people on this board think "Tootsie" is funny but has flaws and unfortunately one of them is the score. "The Prom" got mixed reviews but generally most people that have posted like it and say it is fun and enjoyable. I would say go to "Oklahoma" unless you are not a big fan of old time musicals.

Actually, critics' reviews for The Prom were not mixed at all. The great majority of them were positive, and its overall Show Score from critics is higher than Oklahoma's. I recommend Oklahoma! with reservations, but I recommend The Prom wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, there's a chance it won't make it to the end of July.
The Prom. It’s a far better time than all your other choices . Just saw it today. Tootsie is clever; but that’s it. And Oklahoma was a bit of a chore to sit thru .
Having seen The Prom and Tootsie (trying to catch Oklahoma this week), I would see The Prom. It's a fun show with a great cast and good music. Tootsie was a great book, but to me the music is lack luster. I saw a production of Oklahoma years ago (I know this is a new staging), but it's not one of my favorite scores. Hope this helps.
We haven't seen Tootsie, but we really liked the Prom--there were some fantastic performances and it was a lot fun, but Oklahoma really stuck with us. We hated the dream ballet, but we would see this again over The Prom if we had to chose. If you want a really fun night with a traditional Broadway show, see The Prom; looking for something different and darker--Oklahoma.
OKLAHOMA. TOOTSIE will have a nice run and THE PROM is being preserved on Netflix.
OKLAHOMA is not to be missed.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Can’t speak for the Prom. But having seen Oklahoma! And Tootise you should see Oklahoma!. It was really enjoyable and a unique take on a classic musical.

I'm willing to bet that the netflix movie of THE PROM will not be a recording of the Broadway production, so I'm not sure that's really "preserving" the show. And it's a shame because the performances on Broadway are terrific. The whole show is a joy - hilarious and heartfelt. Don't take my word for it - Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tommy Kail gave it ringing endorsements, too. :)
Thanks, everyone! So five for Oklahoma! and five for The Prom. (Poor Tootsie.) I guess it'll come down to whether we want to see something fun and uplifting or something a bit darker. I tend to gravitate toward shows with emotional heft but we already have a lot of those on our slate. Then again, it sounds like Oklahoma! is unique and will be harder to replicate even if it does go on tour. The good news is we can't go wrong with either!
Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma. No question. You'll be able to see The Prom on Netflix, tour (maybe?) and in regional theaters for the rest of your life, but you'll never ever get to see this Oklahoma again.

Havent seen Oklahoma--but I'd probably chose it, over the other 2 (at least you know you are getting a great score)
And, being unasked, Id see Beetlejuice!--didnt really know the movie, and had a really fun time! Certainly enjoyed more than Prom/Tootsie"
Haven't seen Women on the Verge but definitely preferred The Band's Visit over Scoundrel and Monty. I wasn't crazy about Beetlejuice the movie, which is why I hadn't considered the Broadway version. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see it if it tours. For this trip, looks like it's going to be Oklahoma! but I'll probably hold off on buying tix till after the Tonys.
