Just wanted to bump up this thread because over the weekend I received an offer to sign up for an annual membership to Gold Club and get two tickets to Dead Poets Society. I had been a member of Gold Club, so maybe that's why I received it. I already purchased a $70 ticket to Dead Poets Society on my own, but I think it's a great offer. It says it's for new members only.
If you're interested I would email Scott at Gold Club and ask about it.
I'm looking to join one of the clubs, with more recent availability would you recommend Theatre Extras or Play By Play? It seems Gold Club has been going downhill so I may try that for a month to get an idea but looking for one to join for a year. Thanks
If you're OK with a somewhat more chaotic approach, I would sign up for Show Score. The benefit compared to these other clubs is that it's free. They have the same comps (but you pay a fee for each reservation) that the other clubs have. But they also do group ticket member nights. And they've started offering discount codes. I think there will be growing pains and it's difficult to jump on every offer with the way things are set up now (mostly emails) but again, it's free so it can't hurt.
I know people knock Gold Club. I'd say it helps to be the kind of person who is interested in the smaller plays that get announced but isn't usually motivated to buy a full price ticket. Those have been the more satisfying experiences for me that make the subscription worth it. Though over the past few months I haven't reserved tickets to that many things each month. I average about 3 reservations/month.
I'm disappointed with Play by Play. All of the Broadway tickets that have been offered are at a charge of $55-$75 per ticket. Not the usual $3 price. If I knew they were gonna charge that much per ticket I wound have NEVER JOINED.
Interesting, I post a similar question but did not get a reply. I saw that Play by Play had a great review before, but $55 to $75 a ticket, what are the advantage of membership then? If you get to 1/2 price ticket booth, the price is about $75. I saw this way " Beautiful: The Carole King" about $80 half price, as well as "Something Rotten", "Color Purple", but I thought the whole idea that you can see Broadway cheap if you join Play by Play. Any other experience?
Some clubs such as Show-Score (and a couple others) offer the flexibility to cancel or reschedule your tickets. I really appreciate their customer service as it shows they truly care about the customer.
I have been very happy with the customer service of Play-By-Play and although I am told many papering sites are lacking broadway tickets due to decent sales, I am sticking with them. I would though like to try another site as well.
Customer service aside, I think all these clubs are shadows of their former selves. Gone are the days when you'd see under-performing shows (Broadway and Off) being offered for multiple dates. Nowadays, you have the choice of comedy clubs, cabaret, and shows in the middle of NJ.
Yes, I agree. I was a member of Gold Club for a few years, and I did see Broadway shows on a semi-regular basis. You could pretty much look at the week's grosses, pick out the shows at the bottom on the list, and it was pretty likely you would see offers from those. No longer.
I think Gold Club has good shows, including Broadway, but you have to check web site very often. I have it open at work and refresh every half hour, so if something good comes up, I can get it. Good shows are gone within two minutes. It definitely paid by itself at this moment. I was able to join TDF recently, they have more Broadway choices, but more expensive. But getting AMELIE from TDF for $51 is a bargain Someone was told me about Play by Play, and I would like to join, but $75/a ticket does not sound as much of a bargain to me. Any experience with Play by Play now?
I will say that PBP has redesigned their website and it is one of the worst site re-designs I've ever seen, especially if you're using the site on a phone.
Not to go into detail, as it's not permitted, but they now offer "mystery" offerings where you are unsure where the event takes place, aside from a note that says the venue can be reached by subway.
Icing on the cake, for me, were the 2 "spam" emails I received from them, which contained, what seemed to be every email address of every member. I had to contact them twice because they ignored my complaint the first time. They apologized and asked me to delete the emails, but I wonder how much they protect member personal information. I will probably not renew, for these reasons.
And, yes, offerings are a crapshoot with no guarantees.
Theatermania and Will Call Club allow you to pick up tickets from their rep up until 15 minutes before curtain. Show-Score allows you to pick up anytime starting 30 minutes before curtain. It's nice to do business with all 3 of them.

I'm not renewing once my current membership expires. Aside from the fact that the site is nearly unusable on the mobile, I hate that now you can't even see whether a show is sold-out or not unless you have enough money in your account. I'm not going to load $50 only to find out the show is sold-out.
Bumping this thread to see if anyone has any insight as to how papering services have been over the last month or so. Are there any that are worth signing up for, in your opinion(s)? Feel free to shoot me a PM, if need be.
I've been emailing theatermania to renew my gold pass membership but they haven't been responding. Someone on ATC seemed to mention them "returning" on Sept. 30. Anyone know what's happening?
I renewed my membership a few months ago to Theatermania Gold Club. I’ve seen one show with them since the pandemic. The price of membership was worth just for that one show. They have been updating their site multiple times a day. Good luck trying to get in touch with them.
