I think there should be an award for best ensemble.

Just what we need- another reason for people to discuss the BEST ELPHEBA EVR!!!1!one!!
And when I first saw the name of the category, for some reason I thought it was a separation of acting in revivals and acting in new shows, since people "creating" roles in revivals are really recreating them.
I also thought that is was for acting in revivals.
Me, three!
I'm sooo excited about this new category! On Broadway.com it says that there's a chance Fierstein might be eligible for his replacement of Molina in Fiddler! It'd be great if he was nominated!!! Loving this category, D'Amboise is sooooo gonna be nominated!
Plum --- that's what I thought, too.
This sounds like something producers were rallying for in order to entice their big-draw names to come in during a long run... "Hey, look, you may even win a Tony for this!"

I LOVE This Idea! *cough*Harvey*cough* Seriously, I've been waiting for this for awhile!
yep--I bet there was major lobbying for the 6 month minimum!
Exactly! "You can win a Tony for this, you big-name actor you, as long as you stay in my show for 6 months!"
I smell a rat. And a cheap rat, at that.
Well, I hope it works for them.
I am so excited for this, finally.
It's a shame Brooke missed this for WT.
I'm sure the Weisslers will submit her for Chicago. I honestly doubt Charlotte will get submitted for Chicago. She's been playing the role since 1997, not just this season.
I am so happy! I knew this would be a role! YES!
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm not a fan of the 6 month stipulation, either. So, are they saying that you have to replace someone STARTING within the current season?
CRAP. Just realized Brooke wont be playing Roxie for 6 months?
Damn it. So that means no nomination for Brooke?
i like the idea... there's so much talent that's not recognized as much as the new shows becuase they've been around for a while. they deserve this!
I really hate the 6-month rule. I would love to see Rosie O'Donnell win a Tony.
I wonder if producers can petition that rule? Like sometimes producers try to get actors below the title nominated for leading actor/actress.
does it say that your 6 months has to be current or can it be accumulated, i.e. could brent barrett return to chicago for a wh le and be eligable since he has doine it for so long
And does the person have to START assuming the role between the cutoffs for the regular Broadway season?
The 6 month rule is probably to help guarantee that as many voters as possible can see all the submitted performances.
So this is about five years too late for Reba, eh?
The other strange part of this is that most non-star actors are asked to come in and basically immitate, to a large degree, the initial creative interpretation of that role. Everything from costumes to blocking to line readings have already been established. They learn the "track." There is a small amount of freedom involved, and personal nuances are added, but it's nothing like starting from scratch on a character.
I guess that's why they're calling it "recreation" of a role.
"...Brought to you by tonight's sponsor Xerox."
Whoever said that they'll use this to lure in stars, I definitely agree. They get an above the title billing, 10 times more money than normal Broadway actors, commercials, billboards, etc. and now the possibility of a Tony. Then after 6 months, they bail and the show closes. Six months is definitely not long enough.

Damn, Raul Esparza so would have won for Cabaret. Oh well....I think this category is kinda cool actually. Makes things more interesting.
This might work, I guess
I don't think they're doing it just to lure in big stars. Especially since most big stars don't stay with a show for 6 months.
