This was not a terrorist attack, it was a hate crime. Isis was not behind this.
"
That's actually incorrect. This was an ISIS-inspired attack, as stated by the gunman prior to the shooting. The FBI considers ISIS liable if they are, in fact, attributed for the motive/inspiration.

Yeah, good bet. They're know a bit like that wouldn't look favorable, and it seems easy enough to lose.
I am very interested to see modified Yorktown choreography, since there's a bit that is focused mainly on them twirling and pointing their muskets (as opposed to the parts where they just happen to be holding them, which can be more easily dropped).

Furthermore... This meets the textbook definition of a terrorism attack. The FBI has classified it as an act of terror, and the President of the United States emphatically stated it was terrorism. There's no need to play semantics at a time like this. A hate crime can also be considered an act of terror - they are not exclusive of each other.

Silly? How so?
"
Because it's over reactionary ridiculousness. What is the nightmare scenario here? People see choreography with 18th century muskets and are what? Offended? Scared? Sad? People are shot every day, but when something like this happens people step all over themselves to show how sad they are over it.
its a terrible tragedy and **** the guy who did it. But changing stuff like this makes me roll my eyes so hard

You think the people who were affected by this are watching the Tony's tonight? It's to make people feel better about themselves. Do you think they took the muskets out of the matinee performance today? Do you think they removed the 3 separate people shot during duels from the show? I bet not. But they can't have muskets in a show that's on tv. Okay. Anthony Jeselnik said it better than I can
Acknowledge it with a moment of silence and I am sure some winners this evening will mention the tragedy. I remember when President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 they still played NFL games that weekend. Thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of the victims.
I am kind of with shubox on this one. We are adults. We should know the difference and be able to separate what happened in Orlando from what we are seeing onstage.
I saw Le Miz in Denver the evening of the day Columbine happened. They altered the scene with the kids getting shot. Some patrons were offended. They knew the show and said that if that was going to bother them they would have stayed home. There was an announcement before curtain.

I did not see them during the rehearsal performance.
Though who knows, they may have decided after the morning rehearsal to change from "Yorktown" to something else considering all the references that number has to guns, shooting & counting the dead.
There was not an official announcement about the shooting during the rehearsal, one of the stand-ins briefly mentioned it during her "acceptance speech" though at the time I had no idea what that was referencing.

Yeah, no one cares about your you tube link describing "how you feel". This was THEIR call. THEIR SHOW. THEIR DECISION. They are doing OUT OF RESPECT. How can you not GET THAT?
Today's news is heartbreaking. But yes, the Tonys are important to so many of us in the the LGBT world, and the fact that the show will be dedicated to the victims and their survivors makes it that much more important that each of us tune in, say a silent prayer and continue to spread the message of love and community, regardless of the haters out there.
A spokesperson on behalf of Tony Awards Productions and CBS issued a statement to Playbill.com stating: “Out of respect for this morning's events we dedicate tonight's ceremony, broadcast and all of the performances to those affected by this tragedy. The Tony Awards is about celebrating live theater, illuminating the human condition in all its diverse forms. We walk into the Beacon Theater tonight with thoughts of our brothers and sisters in Orlando clearly in our hearts.”

That is why.

That's why they took muskets out of a song? A song, by the way, that has a ton of reference to shooting people, people dying, guns, etc. I have no issue with them dedicating whatever they want to whoever they want. But this overly sensitive "we can't show guns!" reaction is silly. We're adults. And like I said I'm pretty sure they didn't change the matinee today, so why change the Tony performance? It's silly

Did you even watch the link? It has nothing to do with how I feel and everything to do with our society in general. You seem to enjoy the faux outrage this is allowing you to express though
If they don't, the perpetrators of this evil have silenced a community. Even if it's temporary.
Tonight the theater world needs to stand up and say that no they will not be silenced. And it is the perfect venue to show that solidarity with those who have lost their lives in this act of atrocity. Wearing the ribbons designed by Long will help to do just that.

I mean I don't think this guy did this to stop the Tony's. And if he is associated with ISIS something tell me they weren't going to be watching anyway
