As others have noted, nepotism only gets you so far. That said, it's everywhere in life - deal with it.
Show business ain't your parents - it owes you nothing and it ain't fair. People use every connection that have to open any door they can. How long they get to stay inside depends on their talent, how pleasant and professional they are, and how much they can keep that hustle going.
Trying to fight against these simple truths is pointless.
Those who were not born into wealth and/or connections do have the option of gaining sponsorship and opportunities through a romantic relationship with a holder of wealth and/or power (if one has looks or serious charisma - if not.... well, sorry).
I've been resisting jumping into this mess, but the most disturbing part of this entire thread is that the OP is purportedly an actor. You are more than entitled to not like Ben Platt's performance in DEH or elsewhere, but as an actor how do you not see the work ethic, talent, training, dedication, commitment, etc. that he put into earning his place in the business and earning the Tony? To disparage and disrespect him the way you do just because he had a leg up in the business (and you may not have) is horrible, and karma is a bitch. It says far more about you and how you feel about your own career than it does Ben. You weren't a fan, fine, but this is ridiculous.
I grew up with someone who had rich and connected parents who could allow her the freedom to pursue an acting career. I wanted the same, but had neither the financial or emotional family support, and was the kind of kid who didn't go against my parents. She made it, while I never even got a chance to try and possibly fail. And she is not someone I would even consider talented or hard working, just lucky. That happens, too. But that's not Ben Platt and you know it. If I still harbored all that resentment and envy 25 years later I'd be a miserable wretch of a person. Nor would I ever say anything about this person publicly, even hiding behind an anonymous username. I suggest you get over this and focus on your own career.
^ You're worse. You act like you're above it all in the way you frame these ridiculous opinions, but deep down you're just as nuts as the OP. Shame on you.
This is some of that classic BWW crazy that's been missing around here- even complete with the juxtaposition of having a thread mysteriously deleted while sociopathic troll Liza's Headband is allowed to fasten itself to another thread.

I can't wait for this conversation to come back once Ben is cast as boq in the wicked film. Then it will truly be nepotism, but at its best.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

Yikes! Thats the one way to get me to not go see that movie. Isn't he a bit unsightly for the big screen?

No. But when you're one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood, less powerful producers do what they're asked to do. Not sure you understand how this industry works. It's all a very small circle and people do what they think will help them rise. Casting a powerful producers kid in your project could curry you favor in the future. Obviously.

Hardly! You could go to the bathroom and miss his previous film performances (which he also only got because of his father) - Surely they could find someone better for Boq. I'm hoping for someone British."
You sound like someone who's had a disappointing career and has decided it's because of people like Ben Platt having advantages you don't.

Wrong.
I just see clearly what is going on with this Platt matter and I find it shocking that more people don't seem to.
I see some pretty big differences between the Platt matter and some other examples of Broadway nepotism that have been mentioned.
Sondheim had connections to other composers for sure! He was mentored by the best. But theres a big difference between being mentored by artists, and having a father who is the source of the MONEY behind these projects. Surely it must have went through Pasek and Paul's heads that if they cast Marc Platt's son in their project, perhaps the great money man would finance future works of theirs and give them additional opportunities. To compare that situation to what Sondheim went through in his early career would be disingenuous.
