Well Theaterguy11, it's time for you to go all Deep Throat and start leaking this stuff to Bob Woodward. It will bring down the entire entertainment community I tell you!
In general, Marc Platt has championed the work of P&P. I don't think it's all that outrageous. People have mentors.
While it's possible this relationship encouraged Ben Platt's casting... it's also possible the casting of Ben Platt's casting is what encouraged the mentoring relationship.
On stage, you've either got it or you don't. You have to show up. Night after night after night. This isn't a Jeremy Piven situation. He's put in the work. And even if Dear Evan Hansen wasn't his big success, it was apparent he was going to burst on the scene at some point given his mild fame from Pitch Perfect, his passion for musical theater, and the star making turn he gave in Book of Mormon. His reviews when the tour opened in Chicago were off the charts.
It's cool for you not to like something. I think Come From Away is middle-mind comfort food garbage. I'm glad it touches people though. I'm glad it brings people to Broadway. I don't think there's a conspiracy or scheme behind its success, I just disagree with those that like it.
Marc Platt , who produced La La Land, told Emma Stone, who told her costar JK Simmons, who told his "The Accountant" costar Anna Kendrick to cast his son.
Ben Platt had been involved with Pasek and Paul since before Dear Evan Hansen or La La Land even existed. Ben auditioned back for Dogfight back in the day, and as the retellings go, Pasek and Paul were so impressed with him that they wanted to cast him, but he was younger than the rest of the cast so they didn't. Skip a few years later, and when Ben auditioned for DEH, they recognized him as the guy who auditioned for Dogfight and cast him. I truly doubt nepotism had anything to do with that. Ben got there with his own talent. I can't speak for any of his earlier roles, but DEH was all him.

I don't buy that. They could have thanked him in their Oscar speech for La La Land. There's a limited amount of time to thank the people most important to you and the production. Reporters should be probing the production for info as to Marc Platt's involvement.

For what? What value would this investigative journalism bring about? If you are spending your days obsessing over a possible conspiracy by Marc Platt to "buy" his son a Tony and all the secret messages that were sent over that awards acceptance speech then all I gotta say is wow, first world problems. Go volunteer at a soup kitchen or something.

Why? What would be gained from finding out that Marc Platt is a shadow investor? Would it revoke Ben's Tony win? Would it require him to be fired and replaced immediately? What do you really think it would accomplish?
You seem to be putting an awful lot of time and energy into finding some way to discredit a performance that you've already spent a lot of time and energy expressing a distaste for.

If Marc Platt is indeed a shadow investor on the show than it does add context to his son Ben's casting. By not including Marc Platt's name on the poster or playbill they are inviting the scrutiny. Why not be open about his involvement? Are they trying to deprive their audiences of the context of the situation.

More likely, 11 is the times theatreguy11 tried to audition for Dear Evan Hansen, but Marc Platt was at the door telling him "Nope. Sorry. Can't come in. Role is already cast. So is the understudy. And the replacement and the tour and the next tour and the revival."

I have less than ZERO interest in any role in this production, and have already told my agent. Perhaps it's not cool to discuss Platt nepotism on this board, but its certainly discussed at other levels of the entertainment industry. We aren't stupid!

Here's thed center of it. You don't want to discuss it. All you want is everyone to agree with you. Blah, blah, blah.
Ben Platt cannot help who his father is. Even if he had a LOT to do with his casting: SO? Nothing illegal.
Your implication that his Tony Award was bought for him (in the other thread) means that no one has ever deserved a Tony.
You don't have to like his performance or the show. What do you hope to get out of this nasty, disparaging conversation.
You sound like a petulant child. And you really showed them by telling your agent you'd have nothing to do with it.. I'm sure your agent was relieved.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
