Best laugh of the day.
Well this was a nice laugh. I can't be the only one who thinks theaterguy11's posts here bear a YUGELY amusing resemblance to the POTUS's tweets.

Yeah, right.
Ok well without posting theories, why do people think Pasek and Paul used their brief, not cut off Tony acceptance speech, which was great btw, to thank Marc Platt. There's only so much time and many people to thank. Why did they feel Marc Platt was important enough for that spot? That isn't worthy of being discussed on a message board? What is ?
Literally everything else.

You obviously didn't read "Bandstand or Miss Saigon". I heard Florida has replaced the use of the electric chair for executions, instead just requiring death row inmates to read all 128 posts at which point, their heads simply explode.
I find that answer revealing and unacceptable.
So?
This is a place to discuss everything Broadway
Yes, and your subject was discussed. You don't listen and nobody agrees with you. What do you want now?
Matt- if this topic doesn't interest you feel free not to click on it. I started another thread that was deleted. Someone else started this one. Which leads me to believe there are some out there who find the Platt matter interesting and worthy of discussion. You're welcome to disagree, I have admitted that it's clearly a minority opinion.
You obviously didn't read "Bandstand or Miss Saigon".
That thread is a RIOT! You can always count on the mention of Miss Saigon to turn any thread into 28 Days Later.
Which leads me to believe there are some out there who find the Platt matter interesting and worthy of discussion.
"The Platt matter"? Well, keep looking for those some out there. They say there's someone for everyone. Maybe you'll find your Melania someday.

I can just here this board screlting "I'm Breaking Down." Like how long until this whole thing spontaneously combusts? The amount of pettiness and immaturity here is truly astonishing.
From this article in the New York Times:
“It would be totally disingenuous if I didn’t acknowledge that being my father’s son has helped me,” he said. “But it’s also made me aware of how lucky I am, and how hard I have to work to prove I deserve these opportunities I’ve been given. I hope this” — meaning his performance as Evan — “kind of puts that question to rest.”
Mr. Levenson told me he didn’t learn who Mr. Platt’s father was until a year into knowing him. “He doesn’t wear that at all,” he said.
They may offer you fortune and fame
Love and money and instant acclaim
But whatever they offer you
Don't feed the Platts
They may offer you lots of cheap thrills
Fancy condos in Beverly Hills
But whatever they offer you
Don't feed the Platts
Coming soon to the Richard Rodgers Theatre: The Platt Matter
Starring this guy

I don't know who else you'er including when you use the word "we" in that last sentence, but as your posts show, you (in the singular) really are.
And the casting director for DEH must be SO disappointed.
this idiotic thread has taught me you can't be in a profession if your parent is in that same field. who knew!

None of the shows that Ben has been in have been produced my his dad. I think that his dad has inspired him to get into theatre, but definitely not gotten him jobs. Ben Platt is so talented, he doesn't need anyone to get him jobs.
Actually, you cannot say his father didn't help him at all - even he acknowledges it makes a difference. Even if only that he gets seen more often then someone without connections.
This is such a great laugh. We haven't had a BWW meltdown this good all year.
I wrote in the deleted thread that nepotism can certainly create opportunities for people, but doesn't guarantee success, which seems to take something more (talent, hunger, skill?). Platt has acknowledged that being the son of a wealthy and powerful player in the entertainment world has given him opportunities that a kid off the bus from Kansas (or, more simply, most people) wouldn't have. Happily for him, he appears to have what it takes to parlay those opportunities into real success.
The list of well-connected offspring who ultimately failed, although given every opportunity to succeed, is probably longer than the alternative (viz. Emma Zaks, Daisy Prince, Lisa Mordente, Connor Cruise, Tandy Cronyn, Nicole Fosse, Scout Willis, Chet Haze [Hanks], Annie Maude Starke, Clint Howard, several Baldwins, the Costner girls, the Eastwood girls, etc.).

Hey now, Clint Howard has taken his connections and very...unique...look and parlayed that into 237 onscreen acting credits (according to IMDB). Obviously he's taken a very different path, and achieved a very different sort of fame, than his brother, but he's done quite well at doing what he does (bit parts and cameos). So I wouldn't necessarily include him in a list of people who failed.
