Welcome all ye new people! :-P The group of obsessives welcome you.
Anyways, hope filming is going well. Bet you guys are looking foward to getting back to the warm weather of CA. :-P It's actually been pretty nice here lately.
And yeah I saw that Allison was included on the main cast list. I wonder if she'll be just in flashbacks or film footage ir if she'll actually make an appearance. That'd be cool if she did.
So have a good day everyone!

Ah, the ever ellusive Allison.
I've noticed my posts on here are spastic and strange, darn...Oh well.
I have another question. Will the filming in SF be as open as the filming in NY, and if so then where will it be?

Hey everyone --
Wow, there is so much to catch up with (not to mention old questions that I have not yet responded to) and I just can't do it now, but I wanted to drop in for a moment.
The film is taking place from around 1987 to 1989, but that's more of a guideline for us, and for the designers. It's meant to look somewhat period, not happening in 2005, because the East Village has changed so much since Jonathan first started writing the piece, and treatment for and attitudes about HIV and AIDS have changed so much since then. But there will never be a direct reference made to the year itself, so it's a little gray. I don't think it will be an issue for anyone in the long run. We shall see... But I do think Julie Larson knows what she's talking about when referring to Jonathan's thoughts about its setting.
Anyway, I have to run. It's going to be sad in a way leaving NYC, not just because it's my home, but because it's been a great place to have people come by the set, and I have a feeling there won't be quite the same presence of visitors on our San Fran sets.
Take care, talk to you soon --
Anthony
PS almost forgot: yesterday was the end of What You Own on the rooftop, followed by Adam doing One Song Glory from sundown into the wee hours of the night. A great and intense and exhausting day. Today I'll be doing the opening two lines of Rent for one shot, and tomorrow we do a little bit in a subway station for the beginning of Santa Fe (which takes place on a subway train). The filming in NYC has gone ridiculously smoothly, and Chris and Stephen (our director of photography) and all the other designers and makeup people are very happy with the footage so far. Onward and upward!

I heard last night, and I got chills, too. Somebody posted somewhere that she happened to run into Adam, and he said they shot Glory. I'll own up to having cried the first time I saw him sing it, so yeah... when I heard it was actually shot in New York, that was pretty neat.

Wow, right after my post, I feel cool...I eat this stuff up.
One Song Glory has to be one of my favorite songs in RENT, It ties with Halloween, I'm so excited!
Is anyone else counting the days not only until the movie but until the trailers first come into theaters? I know that as soon as I find out what movie the trailer is in I'm going to see it, no matter what. *sigh* yes I'm that pathetic. Ah well, maybe not, I'm a lot less pathetic than a few people I know at school. Ouch...now I'm getting towards being mean...I should stop.

A lot of times, you can view trailers online.
No need to go see some random movie.

Oh but Emcee, wouldn't it be awesome to see the RENT trailer on the BIG screen. Online viewing won't do it justice!

This is very true. What will be telling is whether or not I actually go to the theatre to see it, and sit through a random movie. I'm not a big movie person at all, so if I do... that's devotion.
A tiny part of me wants to be surprised and not see anything but what I already saw until the movie comes out, but we all know I don't have the self-restraint.

Wow, that's fantastic, thanks Anthony!
Wee, "Santa Fe" on the subway. Haha.
And I guess the year does make sense stylistically. I guess that means no references need to be changed or cell phones need to be made larger. Gray-area time periods are all right with me.
Can't wait to see "One Song Glory" on the big screen. Ah!

Thanks for the update, Anthony. I can't get over that it's ACTUALLY happening. I don't think anyone says this enough...You're fantabulous for taking time to give us the 411. Thank you so much. (the thinking no one says that enough, I was being sarcastic...just so it's not taken the wrong way.)
Have fun in SF!

Yeah, I'm another lurker...
Anthony, you said you don't think there will be the same presence of visitors on the set in SF. Is that because they won't be allowed or because you don't think people wil drive out to Treasure Island...cuz I am in SF almost every weekend and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see some filming if it was allowed.
For the millionth time, thanks so much for the updates! They literally make my day every time I see one!

Thanks for the update! I love hearing how things are going. I wish I could have seen some of the filming of "What you Own" but I could only hear it. It sounded great though!!
Good luck with the finishing touches in NY
and the rest in San Fran
Anthony- are the sets going to be closed on Friday?
wow#2544
Posted: 3/17/05 at 3:39pmI'm trying to get to SF...so if I can get production to let me up, you'll have some visitors!

Anyways, hope you enjoy your last couple of days in the city and have a good flight and fun in SF.

Anthony, once we find out when the filming on Sixth Street in San Francisco is happening, next week and beyond, you can bet that a whole lot of people will come by the set to visit and see you guys.
For folks not from SF, Sixth Street between Market & Mission is the block that the Cat Scratch Club exterior will be shot at, and also a barber shop is being turned into an electronics shop filled with TV screens where they'll watch the ball drop at Times Square on New Year's Eve ...
It's scheduled for 2 days and 2 nights sometime in the next 2 weeks ...
I ran into one of the assistants to the executive producer last night, she's dear woman, and reaffirmed that everyone is aiming towards Jonathan's vision, it's so incredibly heartwarming to hear that. I told her about your posts here, Anthony, and she was so glad you are doing this for the community. So rest assured many of us who love you all and love the show will be out to visit there soon, the outdoor location shots, the blocks will be closed but we'll be able to come close enough to say hello and give you loving support.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 3:57pmIf it's being filmed at Treasure Island...wow that sounds weird even though I've said it before...there most definately should be people coming, but if it's closed then probably not. I know a lot of RENTheads in SF soooo I doubt it would be less unless it was closed...which would suck, cuz I may get to sneak out to SF for a weekend if I'm lucky.
