I mean, there's a reason last night they couldn't just call the show "Young Frankenstein" and had to include "The New Mel Brooks Musical" in front of it all night. It became really annoying.
It is really a great show I don't understand why everyone hate's it. I can watch it a million times and never get bored. Mel Brooks is a genius to write stuff like that.

people haven't mentioned YF because they're tied up with those who didn't win Best Musical who all happen to have dismal numbers. Once the stars of YF leave - it'll only be a matter of time before it's done.
I guess Passing Strange, though I finally saw it on Sunday and it is clearly the best new musical this year. Light years ahead of anything else in terms of quality and depth of writing, performances, pure thoughtfulness and emotion, etc. Real shame.
Is passing strange closing? really? this may sound dumb, but i always watch TDF for show closings- sure some shows could be practically empty and never bother with TDF (ahem young frankenstein) and some always set aside seats no matter what (Sunday in the Park W George)
but others make tickets available based on attendance- and while Passing Strange was all over the place giving away comps and on tdf, they recently only offer balcony seats and now arent on TDF at all... not saying theyre selling out but that mad "please see our show" desperation has waned as more and more people see it...
i think Cry Baby is in MUCH more dire straits. Xanadu might try to hold on through the holidays- but thats about it.
Unfortunately, it looks like some people over at CryBaby may be out of work soon. Their average ticket price is still around $30, which is really, really low. I just can't imagine a show with such a large cast is making its nut with grosses like it has been earning...
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is not as big of a flop as a lot of people on this board make it out to be. For some reason, everyone has it out for Mel Brooks and feels more secure about themselves by saying that it's doing terribly at the box office and will close soon. I wasn't the biggest fan of it but I happen to know that it's not doing nearly as poorly as you all are claiming.
And toodarnhot, seriously, what the hell? If you don't like what people are posting in this thread then why are you going back and reading it and taking the time to post things like that and call people douchebags just because they made a prediction about a show closing? It has nothing to do with ill-wishes for a show, it's a prediction based on grosses, Tony wins, and other factors. I don't see how that makes me a douchebag... Updated On: 6/16/08 at 08:32 PM
Yeah, I'm really thinking/hoping that Passing Strange tries to stay open for as long as they can before announcing a closing.
Do you guys think it'll last at least through July 19th? (selfish reasons, but I really want to see the show one last time and don't want to have my tickets refunded)
UPCOMING SCHEDULE:Passing Strange (7.17.08), [title of show] (7.18.08), [title of show (7.19.08 M), [title of show] (7.19.08 E), The 39 Steps (7.20.08 M), Damn Yankees (7.20.08 E)
Passing Strange will probably stay open all summer. Even if it were to close they usually close a few months from the announcement date. Updated On: 6/17/08 at 12:08 AM
I hate to sound like a jerk, but "A Catered Affair" was limping, and Prince's performance really sealed the coffin. I wouldn't be surprised if it announces closing by friday. "Passing Strange" probably has one month in it left, and "Cry-Baby" has two. "Xanadu" had a good performance, but I doubt it will make it past Christmas. Up in the air if it will make it through the summer.
And in non-nominated shows, "Legally Blonde" is hanging on by a thread. If the reality show doesn't bring in some back, it'll shutter by the end of August.
theres no way to know for sure, obviously, but could someone PLEASE explain to me the logic behind Passing Strange or A Catered Affair closing before Cry Baby?
Seriously...Passing Strange is playing to half full houses, sometimes closer to 2/3 full, true. But at $50/ticket and with a TINY cast/small set, smallish theater... its not exactly bleeding out. it will say "TONY AWARD WINNER" in every ad soon, too.
ACA also- is playing to 3/4 full houses at $70/pop... come on. thats not BAD. its not a smash but its not bad. by any standard. certainly better than Grey Gardens was doing last year...
And then theres Cry Baby, which is playing in a HUGE theater with a large cast, with big sets and big orchestra... is playing to 2/3 of the theater with an average ticket price of $30!! its bleeding out, even if the nut is insanely low, which its NOT.
im not wishing death on crybaby- but if theres one show thats selling poorly, picked up no awards, and is expensive to run...its crybaby. not xanadu or passing strange or ACA which are all small casts, small shows, etc.
Passing Strange-62.6% this week, 50.8% last week, this will not make it past this August Cry Baby-64.4% this week, 55.7% last week, this will probably close in the fall
i get the sense that logic isnt your strong point, but do you see that Passing Strange is playing in a smaller theater and with HIGHER ticket prices, and a SMALLER cast/set/orch, so it costs less to run...
whereas CryBaby is playing to a LARGE theater with LOWER ticket prices (unheard of low...) and with a HUGE cast/production etc..
