"I'm hoping A Catered Affair will close by the end of next month. I have tickets to see it and want to see Gypsy instead."
So go buy a ticket to see Gypsy if you want to see it. What's wrong with seeing both shows? There's no reason to bash A Catered Affair just because you regret buying a ticket for it. Sell it to someone else, or just suck it up and go see it.

Point taken Matt...I tend to look at the percentages over the money not thinking of operating budgets, theatre size and that stuff.
Which in turn makes "Cry Baby" most likely the first to close.
Passing Strange, unless it gets a ticket sales bump in the next couple weeks, will probably close at the end of the summer.
A Catered Affair... probably a few more months.
And lay off. The original poster just meant that it would be convenient for him/her if it closed, because it would allow them to get a refund and buy a ticket to a show they would rather see. No ill intent was present.
Jeez, everyone's so testy around here today!
Thank you thelastmidnight. My thoughts exactly. or why didn't the poster buy a ticket for Gypsy instead of A Catered Affair?

Xanadu has been selling VERY well all this week. And a producer told me they're only had 2 or three loosing weeks. So they'll live to see fall unless things go way downhill fast.
Well, TooDarnHot. In The Heights isn't closing any time soon. today I wore my ITH shirt to school and got many comments that they wanted to see it. It's going to do extremely well. But I think A Catered Affair is closing at least by the end of the summer. Xanadu should stay open but people don't know it's a joke, and Passing Strange won't last after Stew
I have to say that Cry-Baby may be the first to close, my partner and I both thought that the number they did for the Tonys was excellent. Made us actually want to see it. Well that and watching the number Screw Loose that is making the rounds with Ms Mauzey. It really was well choreographed and the music was pretty good. It may get some people in the seats.
my choices crybaby, passing strange and xanadu.
i am not one hundred percent sure about a catered affair but i am planning on seeing it in the next couple of weeks. but that show is seeling more than crybaby, passing strange and xanadu.
i am not saying anything about plays since i am not interested in them but august is closing since billy elliot is going into that theatre.
i feel hairspray will be closing within the next year and a half.
Hairspray closing? Are you HIGH?
August moved to the Music Box from the Imperial. So it's an open run, dumba**.
A Catered Affair will close around October, so will Passing Strange and Xanadu.
Cry-Baby might last a little longer.
I'm thinking "Passing Strange" will close first. I plan on finding out more about the show because I don't know anything about it, but last night's Tony performance did not do it any favors...

Guys, do you really think that just because Xanadu didn't win any awards means that it will automatically close? All my friends want me to take them to see it now! I really doubt that Xanadu is going to close that fast.
Why would you buy tickets to a show and then hope it closes?
sorry notsirappearring, but i was working at hairspray but the 8pm sat and 3pm sunday performances were pratically emptied this week. all i have to say aashley parker angel is not the reason it is filling the theatre at all, no one really knows he is link until they go to the theatre and look at the marquee or their playbill 95 percent dont really know who he is. alot of people reconize ashley spencer though. i hope it doesnt close though. my favorite four in the cast are susan mosher, tevin campbell, ashley spencer and niki scalera.
also i didnt read anywhere that august is moving to the music box, sorry about that.
i do crybaby will be gone toward end of the summer.

Oh, TooDarnHot, where was this attitude when Glory Days was open?
Xanadu might not have won any awards - but as I mentioned in another thread - they had a solid performance and right before the top awards - meaning people were paying "attention". I would imagine they will sell quite a few tickets from their representation at the awards despite not winning...

I've never understood (and yes, I dislike the show immensely) Passing Strange had to transfer to broadway - it has always felt to me to be an OFF-BROADWAY show, with an audience who likes that sort of thing that would find it there. Why do theatre critics keep on insisting that everything has to be "edgy" and "innovative"? I don't go to broadway musicals looking for those qualities, and don't value those qualities above other things, such as having a good time, enjoying the music, choreography, performances, and other elements - musical theatre is fun, energetic, fantasy, joyful, colorful! I don't enjoy screeching and headache inducing numbers. But some do. The show could have run and run off-broadway IMO.
I hope Passing Strange closes ASAP. I think A Catered Affair and Cry-Baby will both close fairly soon. I think Xanadu will hang in there for awhile, perhaps making the 600 performance mark.
Xanadu's running costs are like $1.50. Couple that with Cheyenne's outstanding performance last night and they should be in pretty good shape for a while.
I have a feeling Cry-Baby with be the first post Tony casualty.

my money's on South Pacific...
yeah...
totally, South Pacific...
I think that Cry-Baby will be the first to close, followed by Passing Strange ! They are not doing well lately and I doubt they will get any boost in sales, after last night's performances ! And I bet that the Marquis, with its fantastic location, is really sought after, for new shows, which makes things even worse for Cry-Baby !
i don't want any of the shows to close, i haven't seen most of them yet!!!
First will be Passing Strange, then Cry-Baby. I think that'll be it for any quick closings. Xanadu & A Catered Affair will be around for the summer and might close Labor day weekend. In The Heights is getting huge advance ticket sales when it's 13 nominations were announced. I think winning the Tony will only increase them. Young Frankenstein will last till New Year's. Grease needed to close months ago.
With no Tonys, I doubt SITPWG will extend again. And South Pacific is going well and should be around for a while. The only unknown I'd say is Gypsy, let's see what LuPone's win will do for advanced sales.
Unfortunately Crybaby
.
Thats great that no one is saying Young Frankenstein. I hope it never closes.
I think everyone forgot to mention it, because everyone forgot that it's still open.
Once everyone leaves the cast... it WILL close. Sorry.
I don't think it will Mel Brooks really believes in it and I think he will only close it once he is ready to put a new musical up.
