Exactly. Pap is drunk all the time.
As long as we're fooling around with the notion of Big River (a personal favorite), I 'd love to see Jim Parsons as Tom Sawyer just to see his version of Hand for a Hog. Or even he could just steal the whole show with a cameo singing Arkansas.

Mister Matt, I love it.
Even though many US audiences don't know him, I'd like to see Kris Marshall do the Arkansas number.
Maybe Jim Dale and Nathan Lane as the Duke and the King?

KISMET with Laura Benanti as Marsina, Raul Esparza as Hajj, Megan Hilty as the sexy wife, Santino Fontana as the Prince and Nathan Lane as the Wazir.
Okay, I want to dream big:
"Follies" live - since Into the Woods will be hitting theatres next December, there will be a big push on Sondheim via Disney. They can ride the coattails a bit, but that means you have to cast it big. People who might be crazy enough to do it live, and enjoy risks. Also, people who would pull in huge ratings.
Phyllis - Annette Bening
Ben - George Clooney
Sally - Julianne Moore
Buddy - Sean Penn
The Whitmans (Rain on the Roof) - Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan
Stella - Bette Midler
Hattie - Betty White
Carlotta - Bernadette Peters

Dear Messers Meron and Zadan:
Big River is an excellent musical based on the adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It deserves its place alongside such greats as Oklahoma and Annie Get Your Gun. Here is who can sell it for you:
Huckleberry Finn - Philip Phillips
Jim - Norm Lewis
Pap - Bob Dylan
Tom Sawyer - Jim Parsons
Fool - Kris Marshall
The Duke - Jim Dale
The King - Nathan Lane
Mary Jane - Katy Perry
Um...I'd totally watch CRAZY FOR YOU starring Kelly Pickler.
Or DAMN YANKEES with Beyonce. Or JLo.

I think Fiddler is definitely an option that sounds likely.
We hear about the Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway CAROUSEL every once and awhile. Could this be a potential way to finally make that happen?
Whatever it is they should sign Anna Kendrick to do it.
She has the voice, the acting chops and Theater Cred and is Popular with us 20somethings and below.

Laura Benanti says that she would love to play Eliza in 'My Fair Lady', but she does not think it will happen since NBC might want to do something aimed at families. She thinks maybe' 'Peter Pan' and 'Cinderella' could happen. But she also thinks 'White Christmas' would be a great idea.

I imagine it will end up being Fiddler. Especially if they go back to their original choice for Tevye Victor Garbor. But, I could see the RNH org really pushing to have their new cinderella broadcasted. It would be really cool to see the current broadway production replicated onto a soundstage. I know there are some dark elements, but I could see The Phantom of the Opera. It's a classic around the world.
It's going to be bombshell or hit list
I'd love to see Follies, Aida or any other musical really, but what I would kill to see are...
-THE ZIEGFELD FOLLIES OF 2013!!
A grand old fashioned revue full of stars, showgirls, glamour and spectacle, and of course a true visionary at the helm to make it all come together. I'm talking headliners like Liza, Bette, Patti, Bernnadette, Gaga, Celine, Sutton, Chita, all of the remaining Divas. Comedians like Joann Rivers, Jane Lynch, Tina Fey, the whole SNL clique, etc...
And please leave of all the new material to Sondheim.

I'm wondering why everyone keeps going back to FIDDLER. It is a known entity, sure, but not a family-friendly favorite for the holidays. It is too depressing and a bit dated for appealing to a younger generation. I don't see teenagers, or Middle America families, excitedly tuning into FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Sorry.

But there's already the 25th anniversary production.

I don't think Fiddler would do well in the bible belt. Imagine the complaints… a jewish musical during the "Christians'" most sacred time of year
best12bare...I LOVE YOUR FOLLIES CAST...wow...can any of the actors for the 4 leads u mention actually sing?

If they MUST do Mame, why not with Kristen Wiig or Amy Poehler or Tina Fey? They've all sung on SNL and could surely get enough training to pull it off. Although I think Amy Poehler would be a great Vera. Or Rachel Dratch. Throw in Beiber or a One Directioner as Patrick and it'll be a smash!

Whatever NBC does next, it won't be produced with the any of us on this board in mind. They know all of us will watch anyways. You have to convert the non-believers to justify a $9 million expense.
Jackman seems like a no-brainer does it not?? Couldn't they just plug him back into Oklahoma and call it a day??? My Fair Lady with Jackman as Higgins and a commercial pop culture celebrity as Eliza could work.
I also think Benanti was onto something with a title like White Christmas.
I'm sure they'll want to keep it in the Post-Thanksgiving Pre-Christmas timeframe but I'd love a live Little Shop around Halloween or something during the summer months when programming gets so lackluster. There aren't many shows I wouldn't watch but the top of my list consists of a Bette Midler Hello, Dolly!, Guys & Dolls, The Wiz, Showboat, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, Forum, 42 St, Thoroughly Modern Millie, or Kiss Me Kate. I mentioned on another thread that I wish Showtime or another cable station might jump on the bandwagon and broadcast some of the darker shows mentioned. My original thought was Showtime doing Cabaret, Hair, Spring Awakening etc but I actually think Comedy Central broadcasting Avenue Q after midnight (live or pretaped) could be brilliant ??
I think "Oliver!" would be great, too. Lots of kids in it, most people know the show or at least the story. If you get a wonderful Fagin, Nancy, and Bill Sykes, that could definitely bring in the ratings.
