I've got a question for you all. I want to write to JLY asking for a signed headshot for a friend of mine for his birthday, (I was originally going to send my playbill for him to sign but cannot find it to save my life) but I remember JLY requesting that you send a donation of $25 if you want a signed headshot. Normally that would be no problem but I'm an unemployed college student that just paid for next semester and am totally broke. I really can't afford to send the donation. What I want to know is if you think it'd be too rude to still ask for one even w/o the donation.

Explain that to him. Hes a very nice man, who Im sure would understand. You might also ask him to send a signed playbill, since he can get those easily.
Yea! I got a signed playbill from the cast of TWS (everyone) and I also got my pictures I sent with me and the actor out (did that make sense?) asking for it to be signed, and they did! (It was Stephen, Laura, Matthew, and Kevin. Ahh I'm in heaven...
I've always thought the $25 "donation" seemed a little bit pretentious. I mean, you can do student rush/lotto, see the show, and then stagedoor for cheaper. I'm guessing that it's to keep eBay autograph sellers away, but come on - I wouldn't pay $25 for a signed headshot of La LuPone herself.
Yesterday I received a headshot and letter from Elizabeth Stanley, and today I got the same from Angel Desai (both of Company).
Do Tyler Maynard and Rebecca Luker write back? I've been waiting on them for about three months, and I'm weighing the possiblity that my letters have just gotten lost.
I just got an autographed headshot and very sweet letter back from Natalie Cortez...she even said "maybe one day we'll be working together" after I told her that I aspired for a succesful musical theatre career. very nice!
How long did it take her (Diana) to send it to you? I only ask b/c I sent her something a little over a month ago and am wondering about how long it may be.
Thanks!

Well I wrote to her twice (once in her original run in Hairpsray and once on the Brooklyn tour) so I'm not exactly sure which one it's from but if I had to guess I'd say it was from the tour which I sent in June. I think I sent a letter to Hairspray toward the beggining of May.

I just asked JLY to make sure...of course he will send a photo and resume without a $25 donation. And fan can just mail him at the theatre and ask. He sends everyone a signed photo and resume who asks for one.

I just recieved 2 signed photos from Kerry Ellis (London's Elphaba) and she included a sweet note. And I have a signed photo of Miriam Margoyles as Madame Morrible, sadly she signed it in the dark part of the photo so to see it, I would have to put it near the light.
I haven't written a fan letter in YEARS, but when I used to write them, I got some lovely responses (some people before they were big stars):
Susan Egan Sutton Foster Lea Michele Ron Bohmer Jessica-Snow Wilson Natalie Toro Emily Skinner Alice Ripley Meredith Braun Amy Adams (who is an Oscar nominated movie star now) Howard McGillin Joanna Pacitti (before she got fired...eek) Brent Carver
I'm sure there were some others, but it was all song long ago now... although after listening to Julia Murney's solo album, I'm seriously considering writing to her.
I just got back after being away for nearly a week and came home to a signed headshot and playbill from Daphne. Today would have been exactly two weeks since I wrote to her and there were a good couple of days in there when the post office was closed, so she got back really quickly. Especially since I don't know how long ago it arrived.
She actually wrote a funny little note on the headshot--long story short the last time I saw her in person she knew the tickets had been a Channuka gift and she asked me how to say 'with love' in Hebrew. I told her I didn't know so she put 'with love in Hebrew' on the playbill. Then, in the next e-mail she sent me, she signed it 'with love in English' as sort of a joke. So when I wrote asking for the headshot, I did tell her who I was, but did not remind her of that story. Yet she still signed the headshot 'with love in every language'. She has some memory!

I've never written to a Broadway person before, but earlier this year I got a signed program in the mail from last years orphans in the Annie tour. I got another one in December with this years orphans. The same girl (Marissa O'Donnell) sent it to me. I've also gotten a signed Les Miserables production photo of Christiana Anbri as Young Cosette back in 2003, along with her headshot from the same year. Last summer she sent me her new headshot with a production photo signed from another show she was in.
I got a signed headshot from JLY today. I had only asked for one signed for a friend of mine but he sent a second one signed for me along with a card. I thought that was very sweet of him considering I didn't ask for a headshot for myself.
Just keeping my fingers crossed I get something back from the others that I wrote to.

I got a lovely card from Vanessa Redgrave, which I have framed and hanging on the wall. I also got a very nice letter from Maureen Moore after I wrote, praising her performance in Gypsy.
