"First, Schwartz had some breaking news: “Wicked,” the movie, will film in Atlanta, though the production almost went elsewhere."

“Wicked,” to be directed by John M. Chu, begins production in the fall, and will continue throughout 2022, he said. “We are scheduled to be here for a long time.”

This was an article done by Atlanta Journal- Constitution recently..... 

I am wondering if John Chu will announce casting during the release of " In the Heights" or wait til after he done with the promotion. 

Also curious if the movie will be released during 2022 or wait til 2023?

In The Heights and Wicked are just totally different beasts. One is so realistic. The other a complete fantasy world. Just curious how it translate.

Since Wicked has a lot more fantastical elements than most musicals, I imagine that post production will begin sometime in 2022 and that will give the SFX team a lot more time to make it look really good. Universal might release it sometime during 2023, the 20th anniversary of the show.

What I am excited about is the casting.

Dove Cameron, along with a few other women, participated in meetings yesterday to chat with and sing for the creative team. It's my understanding they won't cast the two leading ladies for a few more weeks as they continue to meet with candidates.

I know there's been some Erivo-bashing on another thread today, but she would really be perfect for Elphie and just enough of a name value. Tho 34 is a little long in the tooth to be playing high schoolers, if Chu is going for naturalism.

One of the other lead actresses already dropped out recently, could happen with Cameron too. Even if that doesn’t happen, the apparent behind the scenes trouble may mean that the show will be in a production pause for long enough that she could shoot something else.

Eh, it's easy to say that until she has an actual choice to make. Would you rather play the lead in one of the most anticipated musical films of one of the longest running Broadway show or... *check papers* a Powerpuff Girl?

I mean the Powerpuff Girls is a very popular cartoon, but given this upcoming series has almost exclusively bad press, ignoring another big opportunity that could get you out of it would be a poor decision.

Oh, really? It would be nice if those of you who post statements like this with absolute certainty also back it up with the source. Where did this come from? Was it an interview? A news article? Did she tell you over an iced vanilla latte at Starbucks?
