It's a shame that this show has to close, and something like Phantom is still running.
What do you mean something like Phantom? A show with the power to last 20 years?

SO SAD!!! At least it lives on in the archives! Best of luck to the cast and crew!
I am soooo sad! I haven't even seen it yet, but by chance I'll happen to be in the city that weekend, so I grabbed some onstage tickets for that night.
I'm really really sad that Xanadu is closing. I really want to go see it one last time on stage before it closes, but all of my friends have sworn they will never see it with me again. Blah. I'll have to kidnap one of them, dont mind sitting in the audience alone, but hate being alone on stage.
You won't be alone. I bet a lot of BWWers will be there
A terrific, fun show. Sad it's leaving us.
I don't see the need to slam other shows though. I can't imagine the folks at Xanadu sharing that kind of negativity.
Thanks, Jerby.
Well said.
Does that mean Cynthia McFarten can announce that it is closing?
What horrible news! It ranks up there as one of my favs! So sad to see it go.
I am genuinely surprised and saddened. I love this little show!
I hate this sad, sad news.
Awww that's terrible!!
I took my first trip to NYC this year (from Ohio) JUST to go and see Xanadu... I sat onstage and had an absolutely incredible time. Xanadu is too good of a show to close.
That's so sad! Wishing the cast and crew the best!

Ummm WTF?!
My question is this... I have tickets for OCTOBER 14TH ON STAGE. What happens? Will I get my money back? I am so confused. Will it extend?
Congratulations Xanadu, on a wonderful run!!! Sorry to see you go, but you did yourself proud, you little show that could!

Why slam other shows? There is room for ALL on the Broadway. No need to be bitter.
i must say that i am completely shocked. i thought it would last at least through the end of the year. as others have mentioned though, when XANADU first began previews, a bunch of people thought it was going to close quickly. it lasted A LONG TIME on broadway, and the cast and creative team should be very happy about that fact.
I thought Whoopi's stint allowed them to save up a bit to remain open through the end of the year. I assume it became clear they wouldn't recoup and they just decided to close it, or maybe they had someone lined up as a replacement and that didn't pan out. Either way, congrats to the creative team and cast for creating such a beloved piece.
You guys are missing a huge part of the article, although its closing on broadway its not gone forever ..
"Xanadu will play at the La Jolla Playhouse in California in November, followed by a six month engagement at Chicago's Drury Lane Theatre, followed by a national tour. The premiere foreign production just opened in Seoul, Korea. Plans are underway for productions in London (co-produced with David Ian and John Gore), China, Australia and the Philippines."
This is really surprising, I didn't think it'd be closing this soon. Hopefully I can see the tour when it comes to Dallas though.
This is really a shame. This has easily become one of my favorite shows solely because it's just so fun to watch. I will try to see it one last time or two before it goes. This is truly a shame. Xanadu will be missed!
