Best Actor was bittersweet for me as I really wanted both Mr. Groff and Mr. Pierce to win. It was definitely deserving but I just wanted Groff to walk away with his own little personal prize.
Best Choreography. As much as I love Spring Awakening, I was just like...what?!? It was seriously an award that I assumed would be given to another musical. I've yet to see Poppins, so I can't actually fully comment on it. I was supporting Curtains on that one. Although the choreography for SA is arguably innovating in what it does, even though it's not like amazing from the more technical aspects of dance.
Everything else that Spring Awakening won was expected. The book brings up controversy...but it wasn't totally lackluster...
Liev Schreiber. I wanted the man to win. But then again I haven't seen Frost Nixon...
What bothered me the entire Tony's... Is "Liev" two syllables?
The awards were highly predictable [which isn't the fault of the telecast, but just made it boring]. Many of the performances were phoned in. The lack of host was evident and detrimental.
Orchastrations should have gone to Tunick for LoveMusik Best Book of a Musical should have gone to Rupert Holmes and Peter Stone for Curtains Choreography should have gone to Mary Poppins Director of a Musical should have gone to Michael Grief for Grey Gardens Featured Actor in a Musical should have gone to David Pittu for Love Musik Leading Actor in a Musical should have gone to Michael Cerveris Best Musical should have gone to Grey Gardens

"People who like Sondheim enjoy cruelty."-LuvtheEmcee
basically everything that SA won...not that i hate it or anything, i just don't like the fact that tony judges feel obligated for shows that are "new" or "different" to win EVERYTHING.
i was also dissapointed that raul didn't win. although i'm obsessed with david hyde pierce, i think that raul not only had a better character to play, but also played it better than pierce. not to mention the vocal differences.
I love Spring Awakening, and am thrilled that it won so many awards. However, I'm definitely with the group puzzled by its Best Book award. The book was stilted, and the cast uncomfortable with the rhythm of the lines. Choreography was also a bit of a surprise, but I can't say I'm disappointed. Bringing some of the immense talent that exists in the downtown dance scene up to Broadway is a brilliant idea, and while by technical definitions, Bill T. Jones's work might not have been the BEST choreography, I do think it added more to the range of performance available to be seen on Broadway, and therefore deserved to be recognized.

Broadway Schedule
December 5th- Hamilton, On Your Feet
December 19th- Noises Off, Edith Piaf Concert at Town Hall
Choreography and Book were disappointing to me, but the only thing that seriously upset me was Leading Actor in a Musical. I adore David Hyde Pierce and I've always been lukewarm to Mr. Esparza's voice, but his performance was absolutely stunning. It actually managed to bring tears to my eyes.
I'm just glad that I'm able to come out of this year without the severe funk I got last year. The last 30 minutes of last year's awards were just torture.
I'm honestly not worried about Raul Esparza getting a Tony someday--tonight he certainly proved he has more than enough talent.
"You're the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!" --Family Guy
"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

I was very disappointed that Raul did not win. I haven't even seen "Company" but just going by clips I have seen, things I have heard and the Tony performances themselves, Raul was the clear winner. I wouldn't have minded seeing Lee or Groff take it either, but I Was very confused over Pierce's win.
I was also shocked at SA's win for choreography. As much as I adore Blonde, I think that Mary Poppins choreography is above and beyond every other's nominees. SA's choreography is the weakest part of the show for me, along with it's book. I wanted to see Poppins take it and was severely disappointed.
Same with book...SA did not deserve it. I was disappointed with the awards as a whole. It was sad that Blonde came home with nothing and Poppins only left with scenic design, although it was well deserved.

The Plimp not winning Best Featured Actress in a Play!! I love her and thought she looked gorge. She was ready you could tell. And it goes without saying Raul. I also just wish there was a way to acknowledge Audra and Donna for their performances.
other than that I'm THRILLED for Springs wins!
RIP Natasha Richardson. ~You were a light on this earth ~
I would have liked GREY GARDENS to have won Best Book and Musical.
Is SPRING AWAKENING as much of a mess on stage in performance as it was on the awards? What's the reasoning for hand mikes? (Sorry, I'm on the otherside of the world and this is the first I've seen of it).
"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott
No disappointments, as my 'predictions' weren't based on any personal desire - merely the way that I thought the business would reveal its desires. Along those lines, there were NO upsets - NONE. This was as predictalbe as anything could be - from a business perspective.
The only disappointment for me was Jennifer Ehle over Martha Plimpton and/or Xanthe Elbrick. Otherwise, it was a very pleasant night for me!! While I predicted Raul Esparza, I loved David Hyde Pierce's performance (all 5 nominees were phenomenal as far as I'm concerned). And I absolutely love Spring Awakening, which I regard as the highlight of the broadway season without exception.
I was disappointed that Kiki and Herb didn't win, only because Kenny Melman is the younger brother of a friend, and because CBS would loved to have have had Kiki up on stage. However, Eddie Izzard's introduction was terrific.
I am disappointed that Raul and Audra didn't win. I think Mary Poppins had better choreography than Spring Awakening.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
To think that a show with no sets per-say, minimal costumes, a bunch of un-combed kids stomping their feet (choreography?) singing such moving award winning lyrics like "Blah, blah, blah, blah." wins the Tony for Best Musical (among others) is a sad, sad statement about what Broadway is becoming. I am so disappointed in the Tony comittee for even thinking SA deserves all that recognition. Broadway ain't what it use to be.. Sad.
