Hooray for Norbert! Hooray and much surprise for John Lithgow! Hank Azaria and Tim Curry instead of David Hyde Pierce?! Gary Beach?! Yay Pacific Overtures!! 4 Nominations, they did notice you!
Suprises - no Borle, no McGovern, no Lange, Beach getting a nomination, no David Hyde Pierce, Philip Bosco getting a nomination - but more importantly - NOT A ONE for Glass, Steel, Good Vibrations, All Shook Up, Bklyn...not good.
He's John Lithgow. He was BOUND to be nominated... whether or not I actually AGREE with that... *sighs*
Gary Beach was quite the surprise, though. And, yeah. I heard Azaria and Curry and thought, "Okay, they're either nominating all three leads, or that's it." Sad for DHP. I was hoping it would be him and Curry.

Oh my god I'm so happy. John Lithgow is nominated. Maybe he doesn't have a Broadway singing voice but he deserved that nomination.
Norbert Leo Butz quotes about John Lithgow: "He's really clumsy. One of the joys in life is to watch a great big huge man totally wipe out backstage. It takes John about three minutes to hit the floor. It's like watching a Great Sequoia falling gracelessly."
"Hank Azaria and Tim Curry instead of David Hyde Pierce?!"
Sorry, I totally agree with Tim Curry (playing the straight man role isn't as easy as it looks, especially in a show like that), although I'd have nominated David Hyde Pierce over Hank Azaria. And Christian Borle over Chris Sieber (if it had to be one or the other), although Chris was wonderful. I'm happy for Michael McGrath - I just loved him.
I so don't like all the Spamalot love, 14 nominations. But I was figuring it would be like that. I'm glad Litgow is in, but not real pumped about Azaria or Curry.
I am very excited for Michael Stulhburg (spelling?) from Pillowman and Michael McGrath (PATSY!!) from Spamalot.

Bad year for women of the south, from the sublime -- GLASS and STREETCAR -- to the, well, less subllime, STEEL. No surprises, really, about Lange and Richardson, both controversial, both with many naysayers in productions that had downbeat reviews. But it's a sad day for lovers of Williams, that his two finest plays are virtual no-shows in awards this season. I know, blame the productions. Okay, I guess we have to -- though I found much to admire in both (admittedly, the minority).
There was also quite a "signal" sent to Jukebox musicals: Basically, stay the f--k away from broadway. No surprise there, either.
