I'm excited for it to open, but for me, it will never live up to the original. But it's my favorite show, so I want to see what they do with it... hopefully it's not another RENT Remixed!
I am really puling for this production. Rent, was one of my favorite shows and helped to start my Broadway and musical obsession. I have somewhat out grown the show, but I am hoping a great new production of this show will inspire more people the way it did me.
I have to say I think they're handling it just right. If they keep things subtle they could develop themselves a cash cow that runs forever. That's what the Chorus Line revival should have done.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
The set looks great from those pictures and Mark, Roger and Mimi's costumes look good, maybe even better than the original, but Maureen and Angel look awful...
I can't possibly be the only one who was there tonight...
I really liked it. The set and most of the costumes are completely different (some of the act 2 costumes are the same as the original production). I really like the set design. It works really well in the small space without sacrificing the feel of the show.
The cast is, for the most part, excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by Matt Shingledecker as Roger. I think he will only get better with time. I'm not sure how I feel about Annaleigh Ashford's Maureen. It was better than I was expecting but she was almost TOO over the top. I really enjoyed everyone else.
The only major book/lyric changes I noticed were during "Christmas Bells," with some lines cut to make it clearer. I don't know if I think it helped, and it was a bit awkward to hear.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...
"Every day has the potential to be the greatest day of your life." - Lin-Manuel Miranda
"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
They sounded fine, there wasn't really a huge difference.
They cut a line! How dare they!
That's original. If you weren't familiar with it, you wouldn't notice. It just sounded strange to me.
