Who do you think should be considered for next years honors.
Im really hoping for Betty White, Bette Milder, Angela Lansbury, Regis Philbin and Barbara Walters
Really its a shame Carol Channing wasnt granted the honor

It is mind-boggling to me that Dick Van Dyke has not been honored. It needs to happen.

Angela Lansbury received the honor in 2000.
Barbara Walters is a recluse (and is apparently in ill health) and wouldn't attend the awards.

My bad. In that case I'll add Betty White to my list!

He just turned 94 so I hope they do it while he is still alive to enjoy the honor.

They also failed to honor Mary Tyler Moore while she was alive. They seem to have an aversion to honoring "TV actors" (even though MTM and Van Dyke both did so much work beyond television).
Yeah, Dick Van Dyke not being honored yet is the biggest omission for me. Then Liza & Bette Midler.

Bob Newhart is such an obvious choice. He has been nominated for 7 Emmy awards. He won in 2013. He is a 3 time Grammy Winner for his comedy albums. He is a great stand up comedian.
He has had 2 of the most popular Tv Shows in history. He is popular talented and well loved well respected. He is 90 yo but he isn’t senile but come on it is time. He has multi talent. I have never ever heard him say anything negative about any president. He has been married to the same woman for over 50 years.
He has appealed to several generations.
Instead we’ll get Beyoncé, Donny & Marie, and Tom Selleck (CBS]

I disagree re Dick Van Dyke. IMO, he has lived a long time, but I don’t see what great things he did other than his TV show. Also disagree re Channing...too limited a portfolio.
I personally think Glenn Close should be next, with Peters or Lupone seriously viable.

Yup, he hasn’t done much of anything...which is why he’s won five Emmys, a Tony, a Grammy, has been inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and received the SAG Life Achievement Award. But other than that, yeah, no great things.

I like Dick Van Dyke, but I honestly believe he peaked in the sixties. I acknowledge that he has worked a lot and everyone likes him, but how much of what he had done (other than Birdie and the Dick Van Dyke Show, which went off the air 55 years ago), would be a contributing factor to getting such an honor. I looked at the IMDB database, which covers TV and film work (which is were he reallyfocused) and it does not approach Glenn Close or Jessica Lange or Jane Fonda (who is never going to get one) in impressiveness. You put together everything Bette Midler has done and his resume pales IMO. Peters and Lupone are theatre legends (an incredibly overused word, but appropriate there) with enormous portfolios. And I am only talking performers.
Someone mentioned Alan Menken, who has to be incredibly deserving. I have no doubt there are others.
When you reflect that those 5 slots cover film and TV, stage, opera, ballet, rock, classical music, country music, rock music, there are rarely no more than 2 slots (and usually not that many) allocated to film / tv performers. I just don't see DVD deserving one of those limited slots ahead of the peopleI have mentioned above.

Alan Alda, Charles Strouse, Joan Baez — in addition to a number of others already mentioned.
If I had to guess Alan Menken will be the next composer to receive the honor, as he wrote the music every millennial's childhood, and he is older then Webber and Sondheim when they received their honor.
I wonder if they’ll be doing another “group” award. Like how they acknowledged Hamilton last year and Sesame Street this past year.
At this point, I would say that it's fairly obvious that the major consideration for the KCH is RATINGS. It's noticeable in recent years that demographics play a huge part in who is chosen. Gloria Estafan, LL Cool Jay, Oprah Winfrey? Any of the people mentioned on this thread are incredibly more deserving than these folks, who also represent the KCH's misguided attempts at "diversity" (oh brother). It's like a checklist is being paraded in front of us to make sure all categories are covered. Let's face it, these "honors" will never be respected the way they desire until they stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and truly represent the finest in artistic achievement. And I'll add that Gene Hackman should have been a part of this group a generation ago.
I was thinking about this and I think Susan Stroman should get one. If not next year, then at least in the next five years.
