What do you think is better Wicked or lionking. I say wicked
i say wicked.....but none of them r the best show on bway---lion king is a joke...not a bway show
Wicked was very good when Idina Menzel was there but i wonder how its going to hold up now with out her and on the other hand Lion king has a story about life. Updated On: 1/17/05 at 04:13 PM
Neither's exactly a classic for the ages.

I saw Wicked in NY and Lion King in Boston. Wicked is the better show.
the lion king is better to just look at
wicked has a better plot
wow, people actually agree with me! Lion King is CRAP. But you have got to be kidding me, if all you liked was IDINA MENZEL and not the show itself, than you are not one to talk. Wicked is just all around better, no matter who plays elphaba.
in my opinion wicked is far surperior (the staging of "defying gravity" is amazing) . the lion king is highly overrated... with the execption of julie taymor's costumes.
no i thought the show was great also but it seems that everyone goes for Idina Menzel, she is amazing
It's kind of hard to compare the two becuase they are pretty different. Lion King and Wicked were both very good in my opinion but Lion King is more of a children's musical that families go to see on saturday nights where as Wicked is probably more admirable due to the superb voices of the cast. Though I give compliment to both for the set and costume designs. I Haven't seen Wicked (only listened to the soundtrack) and I was much more impressed with its songs and such. I found the Lion King to be good in a cute, something I'd take my kids to in the future way.
I think it's really hard to flat-out compare the two. I'm not a big fan of either of them, and I know they will probably be personally forgotten (or at least my experiences seeing them) in the next few years -- however they are huge shows that will be around for a while. I enjoyed Wicked alot more than I enjoyed The Lion King (I saw The Lion King in Boston but I believe the Boston and New York productions are essentially the same). I thought The Lion King was a glorified costume/light show and the principals I saw were quite weak. Wicked has at least a small glint of heart in it, and with the exception of the gorgeous african chanting, I'd rather hear the Wicked score. Wicked just is more of a "musical" whereas The Lion King is more of a "show", if that makes any sense at all.

I agree, it is hard to compare the two. They are completely different.

The Lion King. At least Lion King has interesting staging.

You go to see the Lion King for the choreography and costumes (which are amazing...) rather than for it as a show itself (the acting when I saw it was absollute crap, which could have influenced my view of the show as a whole.
You see Wicked for the all around great show. The staging has great moments (Defying Gravity), the music is very powerful and beautiful (For Good, anybody?), and the acting has so far been great as well.
So I would say that Wicked is the better show.

There's was no "AMAZING" staging in "DEFYING GRAVITY" all they did was stand around towards the upstage of the set, she got a broom, put a cape on and hopped onto a cheap flying effect. I LOVE WICKED but the one thing i resent is how much they put into this show and especially being produced by Universal, they could have definitely chosen a better way to fly her up. I was very disappointed at that effect however the ending notes and lighting left me breathless.
they are two completely diffrent shows that are completely diffrent in every way
i agree with u!
Same, they are both VERY differnet musicals.
Like dreamcatcher and razz said, it's just hard to compare the two. Personally, I liked WICKED better, but I think that people go to see the two shows for different reasons. I thought that the costumes and the use of stagecraft in the lion king were amazing, but the acting, the music, and the overall effect of WICKED just blew me away completely. I had never seen anything like it before, and it was an incredible experience...
I just think it is easier to think how to put Wicked on a stage. Than to imagine how to put The Lion King movie on a stage and make it look elegant and original.
Even though I think Wicked is superb and better than TLK in many ways, I do think The Lion King is far too much an original and creative work, that opens new horizons in how musicals are done.
