Any comments about this movie? Anyone interested in seeing this film? Sherry Sheperd, Mariah Carey and others star in it...
I have a feeling this will be one of the best reviewed movies of the entire year. I've been waiting a very long time to see it and it's gotten nothing but great word of mouth so far. I have a feeling it's the kind of thing that could get Mo'nique an Oscar nomination.
It won the Toronto Film Festival Audience Award. Oscar noms are all but guatanteed.
I can not wait. The trailer blew me away and the word of mouth is indeed good. (Just hope that hype doesn't ruin it for me as hype can do).
And what about Mariah Carrey?! I didn't even recognize her until the 200th time I saw that trailer. Looks like Miss Cannon has been taking some akting lessons...
Two separate people I spoke to said the exact same thing: "Mo'nique WILL win the Oscar for best supporting actress next year".
I recognized Mariah right away.
I think the story is definetly something different, but then again, Oprah, who was involved in the messy "Color Purple" on Broadway and Mariah, whose last film I can remember is "Glitter" kinda turns me off from seeing this.
Sherry Sheperd also sux, the only one who seems to be good in this movie is Mo'nique, who is credible as an actress on that trailer.
Oprah is also responsible for Beloved. Gah.
Did this movie already come out in limited release or is it releasing in the near future?
TIFF was its primiere- should be out shortly Oct/Nov for eligibility re Oscars.
(Toronto critics did not love the film but the audience did)

Mo'Nique is not the only person who looks to be giving an amazing performance. Newcomer Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe looks heartbreaking in the trailer! I cannot wait to experience this movie.

And it looks like Mariah gives a great performance in this. But, if you want to miss this because of flaws on people's resume, ok.
Hell, if we avoided films, TV, and theatre because of crappy projects on someone's resume, we would never see anything.

Wrote the man who was talking up the Jack Black King Kong in early 2004.
I can't wait to see it. So far Mariah has gotten positive reviews for this movie. The movie is starting to get a lot of Oscar buzz already.
I believe that the film was completed and Oprah and Tyler Perry only then came on to "present" it. So any of the implied baggage from Oprah's producing past would not apply here. She is just endorsing, helping get wide release for a film she believes in.
The trailer makes me tear up at the part where Precious says, "Please don't love me."
Right, Dolly. Oprah's influence has no bearing on the actual movie, just the marketing and promotion.
The trailer alone makes me cry. I am going to be a big old mess in the theater, but I want this movie to do well...so I'm going to give it my money and embarrass myself!
The movie has really good buzz. From what I hear newcomer Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe will probably be nominated, and like others people have said, Mo'nique is posed as one of the strongest contenders for the Supporting Actress award.
I feel the Oscar race is about to get interested, since the summer was a bit disappointing in terms of awards (though we got Meryl Streep as a lock for JULIE & JULIA).
"Wrote the man who was talking up the Jack Black King Kong in early 2004."
At most, I *might* have included the Peter Jackson King Kong in a LIST of films expected to be big sometime in early 2004. I certainly wasn't "talking [it] up". I do recall mentioning the buzz around it when it opened later that year.
But, you like to remember things your way all the time, so what's new?

You're right. How unlike a human being.
You're human? Have we confirmed this scientifically yet?
The trailer for this movie looks fantastic. I'm looking forward to this one.
This looks brilliant. Can't wait to see it.
This movie will most likely get me to go see it in a theater. And Oprah really only "presented" The Color Purple on Broadway (Which I very much enjoyed) didn't she. The money she put it was just to put her name on the marquee. They already had all of the money they needed for the production. I would have seen it without her name attached to it.
