GOOD. But as I said in another thread, here's what's going to happen. The rules state masks must be worn except when someone is eating or drinking so (as I experienced a lot this month) there's going to be a LOT of people who will pull their mask down and hold a cup or a box of candy the entire time as a way to get around the rule. But the fact that they'll have to have shown vax proof is at least a small comfort where that's concerned.
As it should be, especially with this variant. Cue the obnoxious anti vaxxers in 3, 2, 1...

As they should, but are they actually going to enforce masks? Or will this be another "you shouldn't pull out your cellphone in the middle of Act One, but if you do, what can we actually do about it?"

Good! I hope they adopt an airline flight attendant level of enforcement. But it’s live theater so doubt they’ll be patrolling the aisles.
Yay vaccine requirement, meh mask requirement. Since I’m vaxxed, I don’t really care if the person next to me is masked or not.
On with the show!

And what if some of the theater has no masks and others are using their cellphones? LoL there is only so much front of house can do, love.
Forgive my ignorance if this has already been stated, but what about touring shows? How will those rules be enforced house to house?

Two things I wonder:
1) where are designated eating and drinking areas?
2) and which shows would have attracted the most number of anti-Vaxers based upon the show?
Hmmm

The very end of the article also says that the protocols are only in effect through October and will be re-assessed for performances beginning November 1st. I could see the mask mandate being removed at that point if the COVID data supports it.

I'm also curious about foreign tourists and how they prove their vaccinations. Or if they will be included at all.

Exactly. It's a great idea, but I'm afraid it's going to be completely unenforceable.
I think we’re going to have to get some sort of worldwide vaccine app soon, to show proof. The fact we don’t have one already is strange to me.

Sad thing is that a lot of tourists from abroad would have no clear direction as to proof of vaccination. I feel those shows relying on foreign tourism will be hurting bad because of this.

This is only in effect right now for Broadway houses, so it won't matter for touring venues. I imagine many tour venues will institute their own policies, but some states have passed laws banning vaccine requirements, so the venues will not be allowed to require vaccines even if they want to.
Wishing desperately for an island to ship all the anti-vaxxers to right now…
Went to a show last night that required masks. It wasn’t awesome, but not as horrible as I expected.
I’m not at all happy about the mask requirement for us vaccinated folks, but I support any measure taken to get us through this pandemic.

Even if touring houses can't mandate vaccines, Equity is requiring all audience members to be masked and 6 feet from the stage/pit per the touring protocols they released earlier in the Summer: https://deadline.com/2021/06/actors-equity-agreement-broadway-tour-covid-protocols-1234775437/
I'm glad to see this. I'm also glad they announced it now because even if this encourages a few people to get vaccinated before seeing a show, that's a good thing. I imagine most Broadway audiences already have the vaccine but maybe this will be the push any reluctant ones need.

It is sadly not sustainable in the long run. Broadway shows can barely survive financially with zero restrictions.

Right, I was only talking about the vaccine requirement. I will say that my touring venue is NOT making it obvious that masks will be required. It's no where on the ticket, or the confirmation email, or the order page. You have to proactively click through to "safety policies" to find it. I fully expect it to be a huge problem when shows resume and audiences show up maskless.

I don't think that's necessary. People are already traveling with their local app and it works fine, so there's no reason why that shouldn't work at the theatre.

Maybe I’m the only one here who feels this way, but I’m not interested in seeing a show if I have to wear a mask for 2 1/2 hours.

Then don’t go.

I fly back-n-forth from NYC to Los Angeles every other week and I’m wearing my mask the entire 6 hour flight without any discomfort. Put your big boy/girl pants on. Geez. People complain about the most ridiculous nonsense.
