I think Amy Poehler would be good casting. She is very much an heir of Carol Burnett and it’s her favorite musical. Plus Sam directed her besties Rachel and Maya so she probably knows if she’d succeed with his style.

Has anyone ever seen a production of Annie with an all-adult cast, à la Spelling Bee? (Im not suggesting that this would be a GREAT idea, though maybe it could work under the right circumstances.)

Has such a mediocre director ever been so lucky? His success is entirely down to the genius of Cole Escola. Rocky Horror was terrible, I have very low expectations for this sadly.

Poehler turned down an offer to do OH, MARY! so let’s see if she’d agree to make her Broadway debut on this one. The 8 performances a week grind doesn’t appeal to her at all and she’s said so numerous times.

So not on topic, but looking at that pic of the 70's poster, was Annie the last musical that one person alone (Mike Nichols, of course) produced a Broadway show?

ANNIE on Broadway
A new 50th Anniversary Broadway production of Annie will premiere on Broadway in Fall 2027, fifty years after its Broadway debut. This new production will be directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton (Oh, Mary!; The Rocky Horror Show). The production is being described as "a fresh theatrical perspective for a new generation of theatergoers."
The musical was last seen on Broadway in a 35th anniversary production, which opened on Broadway in 2012. Thomas Meehan revised the musical, with James Lapine directing. The revival started previews at the Palace Theatre on October 3, 2012, and officially opened on November 8, 2012, and closed on January 5, 2014.

Definitely not, though I don't know what WAS the last show with a single name as producer in both function and billing.
But also, Mike Nichols got to be the sole name above the title because he was Mike Nichols, not because he was the sole producer. The other producers (lower on the title page in two different locations) were Irwin Meyer, Stephen Friedman, Lew Allen, Alvin Nederlander Associates, the Kennedy Center, and Icarus Productions (Nichols' entity), in association with Peter Crane.

Should Oh Mary close in July 2027 (I doubt it will) or she is looking for a new gig, Hannah Solow as a standby Hannigan would be inspired.

She can still do both if she’s a standby as she’s not part of the show’s cast and only goes on when needed. Julie Benko was standby in the recent FUNNY GIRL revival and only went to the theatre when she was needed. Charlotte d’Amboise was Christina Applegate’s standby in the 2005 Broadway revival of SWEET CHARITY at the same time she was playing Roxie in CHICAGO several blocks away. She filled in when needed and her understudy went on in her place over at CHICAGO.

It's common practice that the standby is at the theatre every night for the duration of the performance – especially in 2026.
The Charlotte situation in '05 was unique, not the norm (like the oft-cited Cynthia Nixon and John Cullum situations).
If Hannah Solow got a full-time principal contract for a Broadway show, I'm sure she would take that over the standby track in Oh Mary.

It’ll be interesting to see if/what impact Paddington has on Annie sales or vice versa. If there’s enough long-term demand from families to support both at high price points.
Still wish Broadway could get a bonafide Oliver revival instead of yet another Annie revival.

I guess we'll see what happens, but I can't imagine either show runs for over a year in NY in this economy and with greatly reduced US tourism.
