I brought it to their attention months ago, so clearly nothing has been done about it. It was so f*cking frustrating and took me and half of the front mezz out of the show for the entire second act. The quietest, most intense moments of the show being ruined by middle school whispering above you.
…and before someone says it, no, they weren’t whispering about the lights or the show."
I complained to an usher and found out the couple next to me did as well, but it was still happening during act 2.
so i guess my next question is, can you hear it in the orchestra seats well or is it just front mezz that’s mostly affected.
has this happened at other shows at this theater? I mainly started seeing shows in NYC within the past 6 years and never ran into anything like this.

Just curious if anyone has gotten tickets from TKTS and where they may be? Going to see it in March and not sure whether to buy ahead or wait til closer. hard to imagine tickets getting snatched up at the top price. or is box office the day of a better bet? i am willing to pay for good closer seats but not 300 plus. thanks for any information.

I got a ticket from TKTS, and I (and the group beside me also got tickets from TKTS) sat in the back of the orchestra side on Sunday. The view was fine, there isn't terribly much to look at in terms of scenery.

Are you able to hear the lighting guys whisper from the side orchestra or is that just a mezz/balcony phenomenon?

I'm thinking since no one from the orchestra seating has piped in, that you really only hear the lighting guy whispering/talking throughout the show from the first few rows of the Mezz. Hope this helps with seat selection! And I really don't get why this doesn't get addressed from within production. He/She must have serious seniority or something.

I was in Orchestra right row L seat 18 (on the side aisle) and I didn't notice any whispering

Is Joe Locke playing until May 5th as well?

The production will indeed close on May 5, 2024.

That is the end date he gave for his time in the show in an interview I saw him do right after he started in the show.
Surprised they couldn't get two other names to keep it running through the summer. Audra and BSM would have been heaven.

I saw the show yesterday (having previously seen it last year with the originals). I still don't think this is a good production of Sweeney but I liked it much more this time. The score and chorus sound glorious (obvi). Sutton is miles better than Annaleigh in my opinion. That said I think both are poorly directed to do things for the sake of laughs not deliver things in character that are funny. When Sutton was herself she worked really well. I loved her fear at the end when she tries to crawl away from him, her natural charm, etc. Aaron is miscast--I sorta wish he'd opted up more as I think that would've made him sound better. When the part is sung by a baritone the notes are at the top of his range and sounds more impressive, none of these notes sounded impressive from Aaron aside from "not one man, nor a hundred" cuz he was able to actually belt them. He had no menace in the roll. I wish he was Anthony. I don't get the approach to Anthony in this production. I get Jordan Fisher is a name but when he left why wasn't a tenor who can sing the songs to the rafters chosen, why was it someone with a very similar voice to Jordan chosen? Makes no sense. Joe Locke was excellent, Ruthie was as a amazing as the first time--her work is particularly stunning in this show. The scenic design still doesn't work for me.
I saw it last week too after seeing Groban and Ashford last year. I agree with bwayobsessed about the design and Tveit being miscast. I was also again disappointed with the Joanna performance. It just did not feel special at all. I thought the ham factor was on super max with Ashford but Sutton surpassed it. I laughed a bit but just think it might have been too over the top. And she’s quite good at that. I would never have forgiven myself for not seeing it again but was a bit disappointed. I wish she’d do a Charity again.

BroadwayWorld: Tveit & Foster always loved 'Sweeney Todd,' but actually playing it seemed too pie-in-the-sky

An oral history of Mrs. Lovett, one of theater’s greatest, bloodiest roles

Sutton looked like she stepped right into that oven. She was great otherwise. Aaron was dread. Epiphany was actually quite cringe. And that letter scene is so bad, the choreo is awful, I don’t like how all the action stays upstage. I don’t know why people say this is Sondheims masterpiece, I can think of at least five scores that are superior.

On my Ticket it says MMezz Row A. Is that Front Mezz or Rear Mezz?
That should be the first row behind the front mezz section.

Thank you.
Rows A-K of the rear mezzanine are called mid mezzanine, which is what the "M" stands for.

There are production truck permit sheets in front of the Lunt Fontaine for next weekend. Are they filming? Is this being saved for posterity for the library or for PBS? I would love that. Would this be the first time with a replacement cast?

I don't know what they're doing, but many a show has been filmed with actors who didn't originate the roles in that production, be it for the library, or Live From Lincoln Center (Piazza, South Pacific), or commercial release (Sweeney with George Hearn & Lansbury on tour, Kiss Me Kate in London, Jekyll & Hyde, Waitress, She Loves Me).

Went back last night to see the new stars. Sutton is still in Carol Burnett mode and is hilarious. I don't mind ham if it's based in truth. Aaron is always a weird one. He can act. He can sing beautifully. He's gorgeous. But from Next To Normal on, he is always missing something...there is never a dynamic to him, especially when paired with someone who is obviously one of the most talented people on the planet. But I once again loved this staging, probably the last great Sweeney production in a long while. A shame it has to end...
