People started saying that Little Mermaid did not count as it was during a rehearsal without an audience, well so were the first 2 Spiderman injuries but nobody said that when they happened.
No one said it didn't "count". What I had said is that the reaction here on BWW was less immediate because we didn't know about it until well after the fact. Someone asked if people were angry about that injury. No one said it didn't "count".
Actors, Dancers, Stunt Performers etc are injured more than you think, but because of the drama of this show (fuelled by the press and now it would seem Broadway World) we are hearing every detail. I bet nobody can name any incidents from Starlight, Fame, Saturday Night Fever, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Fosse, West Side Story, Footloose etc etc because those shows did not get so much public attention, hell the actor who got his leg crushed in Lord of the Rings got less attention than this.
The difference is that this production has begged to be the center of attention from the start. And if this injury were the only problem the discussion wouldn't be as animated. But, this is only ONE of the issues. The constant delays, the vast amounts of money being lost. It's not just ONE accident. It's the FOURTH accident (that we know of). Sadly, you can't look at this as an isolated incident. There is a bigger picture to be looked at here.
Comparing hip injurys from the choreography in Fosse to what's goin on here is kind of apples and oranges. What is most disturbing to me is this seems like a pretty simple stunt. The fact that they couldn't get that right would make me pretty nervous to sit in the orchestra of this show.

I firmly agree. Someone please close this hot mess and ship it to Universal Studios where it belongs.
I would say that twisting an ankle or landing awkwardly doing a dance move is a heck of a lot different from having your wire snap whilst suspended 30 feet over a pit.
The callous attitude of the powers that be at Spiderman with regards to these injuries doesn't help their case, either.

I would imagine the insurance on this project was already high, simply because of potential effect on the audience. Each successive accident increases the risk, and may eventually make it all prohibitive.

This could be at the root of why I get such a whiff of shadenfreude when you post your righteous anger about Spiderman.
That video the NYT obtained is amazing. Someone seemed to have been taping the whole production in order to get that exact moment of the snap. (Queen Julie will not be pleased!) I had to replay it several times to hear what sounds like the actor hitting the floor followed by Jennifer Damiano screaming. I'd have to say from a press standpoint, the reports of her screaming/crying are what really give the whole thing a horrifying tone. It's too bad that video doesn't go a minute longer to hear more and the announcement of the show cancellation.
Any mathies out there who can calculate how much the show would be losing if they had to refund and cancel tomorrow's performance (at the very least)?

There was also no Twitter, Facebook or BWW around for anyone to make an instant report.
I was at a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar where Jesus fell off the cross. It was funny and scary at the same time.
IIRC, the production also had no less than three visits from safety inspectors. Is this something that was added after their last visit?

Is there a doctor in the house?
I'm not a doctor but I have rubber gloves and some tools. Does Reeve need something?

Maybe just a little counseling at this point. Think you can handle that, Jordan?
I can do that. Just rest your head between my legs and tell me all about it...

I thought you might be up to the task
Equity Releases Statement on Latest SPIDER-MAN Injury
Am I the only one who finds it interesting that Broadway World doesn't allow links to bootlegs, but the will post one as a story. Yes, yes, I know it's a big story, and they want to cover everything with the story, but it almost seems hypocritical.
Oh it's totally hypocritical of them but I wouldn't expect anything less. I'm surprised they didn't say the video came from them.
BWW relaxed its rules about youtube bootlegs a long time ago. You used to not even be able to mention them, now you can post links!
As someone previously mentioned, the story was a lead story on Good Morning America this morning.
Per them, the show will go on tonight.
positively awful that this happened.
That being said the video isn't doing this production any favors, in addition to it capturing the injury, the production itself looks even worse than previous clips have shown.
It really does. It looks so much more like a theme park show than I could have imagined. And that rope behind Spiderman is just distracting as all hell.
I've held my tongue this whole time, but this is truly becoming more painful to watch.......

There isn't actually a performance tonight.
They didn't have a show scheduled for tonight anyway, but they have two scheduled for tomorrow.
