"Also with "Mermaid, wasn't it a rtap door that was open when the actors were taking the stage for a show? These stunts, to me, seem a bit more dangerous. Again, just my opinion"

Yes. A stagehand left the trap open...and the stage manager wasn't paying attention when he called places (there was a red light near the SM's console that would light up if the trap was open). Since it was near-complete darkness, Adrian was the first actor to walk out and could not have seen the trap was open. The audience was seated and actually heard the commotion backstage.

Bu that was a freak accident caused by simple neglect. The issues with Spider-Man seem to be ongoing, with the injuries caused by the technical aspects of the show. Any chances that this show could recoup are now gone. Medical costs, lawyers' fees, any potential judgments, etc. ALL come out of the show's weekly budget.

And as far as I'm concerned, if The Lion King's costumes and set design are causing injuries, that show should be shut down as well. Enough is enough.

Looking at the picture of the actor being put in the ambulance, it appears that he has a yellow brace around his neck and head.

I know we live in an age where you can take video and pictures anywhere at any time but I am just a bit apalled that the New York Times would post a bootleg video. I would suspect there is an announcement before the show. Just my opinion.

Alice Ripley has something to say about all this...

RIPLEYTHEBAND SPIDERMAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF. THIIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND EMBARRASSING TO WORKING ACTORS EVERYWHERE.

Ripley might be crazy, but I totally agree with her.

I asked my dad about back-boarding and neck stabilization because he is an EMT. Basically, he said most times they do that for fall victims as protocol. That could mean there are serious injuries or not. But, he said the rules for that have changed over the years. Like it used to be if you fell from twice your height, and then got changed to standing position.

Is there any further word on Chris' condition?

My question is how much rehearsal time do the understudies/swings get with the flying effects and other stunts? Considering that it has been mentioned that up to nine people perform stunts as Spiderman in the show, and some of the Aeralists like Kevin Aubin are also listed as swings, does that mean he has to know how to perform aerial stunts that he does not perform on a regular basis, in addition to what he does do each show, in order to cover for other cast members? Do they really have time to rehearse the stunts weekly? Because that would seem to compound the problem of injuries if performers are doing stunts they are not as comfortable with.

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

This seems to be the latest Equity Update which states Chris is in stable condition but no details on his injuries:

"All signs were good as he was taken to the hospital for observation."

One does not fall 30 feet and get taken in for "observation." And what exactly points to all signs being "good"? The guy didn't die? He's not paralyzed?

It's entirely possible he appears OK and is being observed for internal injuries. It does no one any good to pick apart each statement to find something more to complain about.

Misto625 a swing would have to know all actions for each track that they cover. They are given adequate rehearsal time, but as the show hasn't opened yet, there may not have been understudy rehearsals yet. Or there might not have been extensive understudy rehearsals as the concentration now would still be on the principals and ensemble.

Here's hoping that Chris has a speedy recovery... and also that no more actors get injured over at the Foxwoods Theatre!

Equity Update: SPIDER-MAN Performances to Be Halted

IDK if this has been posted already, but this video from ABC News has basically everything we've heard already. Interviews with audience members, video of actor being put into ambulance.

Broken ribs and possible bleeding (I'm assuming that means internal bleeding, which could be quite a severe thing)? So much for "all signs looking good", huh?

More canceled performances, more safety precautions = more money being spent on something that wasn't exactly wowing a lot of audience members to begin with. The bad press is just snowballing from this point. Is this show ever going to see it's opening night?

Yeah, I love how ABC news said that he suffered minor injuries, but this certainly does not sound minor.

Well, according to Kathie Lee on The Today Show, she talked to some General Manager or something who said he suffered minor injuries. These conflicting accounts are fantastic.

^Maybe that's because they didn't have anything official yet. (forgive me if the word had already gone out and I am mistaken)

This is absolutely a terrible thing that happened to the actor and he has my thoughts, but the amount of assumption and paranoia (not the perfect, but the best I could think of) is very much out of hand.Thank you AEA AGMA SM for being a voice of reason and level headiness through a lot of it.

Also Jacobsnchz, I am pretty sure that Kristin Chenoweth thing had nothing to do with Spider-man.

ALSO: A question. In the video, is that Mary-Jane scream planned or even prerecorded? It sounded very theatrical.

And our very own news desk here at BWW has him listed in serious condition.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

Tag, I understand that swings have to know all the actions for each track they cover. I was expressing concern about the adequate rehearsal time being given, given that the show's technical complexity and the show still being in previews and plagued with issues. According to IBDB, there are three understudies for Kraven the Hunter- Kevin Aubin, Daniel Curry, and Ari Loeb, so I assume one of them would have to start rehearsing these stunts soon after the all-clear is given. I'm curious as to how the stunts are distributed among the cast, and whether that means one of those three guys is now doing twice the amount of stunts he would normally do given this situation. It's this sort of company managing and logistical planning that I am interested in when it comes to theater.
