seriously hope he's ok. though it does sound like a bad injury, I would have to imagine one of his understudies is currently rehearsing the role this morning.
Dear Andy,
Ignore the postings by a few kids about their tickets. Everyone on BroadwayWorld is pulling for you. You will always be a champion to us.
Love,

If I recall correctly, didn't James Carpinello s inuring himself before the opening of XANADU and so Cheyenne Jackson assumed the role at opening and thereafter? That was a tough break for Carpinello, even if the production did not ultimately prove successful.
Today's matinee has been cancelled.
It must have been cancelled as Andrew Call probably has had very little rehearsal time for the role. Here's wishing him the best of luck tonight.
Thoroughly enjoyed Andrew Call in Brooklynite. Wishing him a great show!
I saw the show last week and absolutely loved it; have tickets again tonight and am looking forward to seeing Andrew Call's take on the role. Get well soon, Andy Karl!!

The 23rd and 24th are both dark per the sales schedules--I suppose they could postpone the opening by a week and give Andy time to heal. While I don't think that he'll win the Tony (Ben Platt seems more likely), from the sales standpoint the nomination bump will be important, especially with the poor sales so far. On the other hand, they need positive reviews out now to sell some tickets.
Andy and the production are in a tough spot. If it's a soft tissue injury, he will really need to rest it. Perhaps they can have the understudy do all two-show days, but even then depending on the injury he might put too much strain on it. There's a lot of physicality in the role-For those who've seen it:
Think of him putting on his pants on Morning three. You can't do that little leg-into-pants dance with an injury of either leg.
"Break a leg" indeed.
Andy--do what you need to stay healthy!!!
Guess the afternoon show will now be a put-in for the understudy. Hope this doesn't affect Andy's nomination
It will be interesting to see if they postpone their opening. What's the cut-off for the Tonys?
Personally, I think this role should run on an alternate schedule. Its EXTREMELY physically demanding, vocally not the hardest role to sing but definitely not the easiest.

The only dates with no other show opening are the 21st and 22nd. Not that much more time, but since it's still not much, I could see them pushing it back to that. Feel bad for Andy right now and hope he heals quickly. Such a nice guy that's probably more worried about doing the show than his own health.

I don't think either day will work. They have shows on those days, so opening then would either mean ditching most of the comps and pageantry or refunding everyone with tickets already and doing the show then. Perhaps they can accommodate both (the good side of poor presales) but much of the prime seating would be taken by people who bought a regular show ticket. Charlie opens on the 23rd: Maybe they could do an opening Matinee?
My wife's thoughts, were that he's finally getting used to the role, and that's when these things always happen.
Maybe he was daydreaming or planning his day, you know, like the groundhog
alternating going forward sounds like a good idea.

I saw the show a few weeks ago, but don't remember it being that physically demanding. What were some of those parts?
Feel bad for him. It also feels like his long-lost dark twin is performing tonight (Andrew Call lol).
He is onstage nearly the entire show, often literally running from one side of the stage to the other. Scenes transition as he moves through them. He constantly has costume changes onstage. He gets hit with props, dodges hits, throws punches.
It's very physically demanding and would be very difficult to perform with a leg injury.

Oh duh lol. My idea of physically demanding was dancing and doing crazy stunts, so I didn't factor in those examples.
Maybe they could alter the staging to accommodate Andy's injury? It still wouldn't be easy, but simplifying some things for a few weeks could only help.
For how long did he perform the role in London? Is the staging that much different than in London?
This show is like a train - it just keeps moving. I doubt there would be many things they could do to alter the staging, especially right before opening.

''The only dates with no other show opening are the 21st and 22nd.''
Unless the League changed their rules, I don't think ''Groundhog Day'' is only limited to opening on the dates where no other Broadway shows are debuting. A couple (or few) years back, two Broadway shows opened on the same night. Maybe someone with a better memory can recall them. It was before the Tony cutoff. At any rate, moving the opening will be a logistical nightmare. Hope Andy has a rapid recovery and an amazing opening night on Monday!

Perhaps, but to paraphrase Rita, "that would be a dick move" (although perhaps understandable given the circumstances)
"Violet" and "The Cripple of Inishmaan" both opened on the same day in 2014, on the last day of eligibility. So it can be done!

I can't imagine how he'd do the staging with an injury.
The scene where he keeps trying to kill himself would maybe be the most difficult. He is moving so quickly between suicide attempts and the bed. It looked like he was being replaced by a body double, while he runs around the stage, or under the stage, and maybe trough trap doors, to get back in that bed in time.
I really hope he can recover quickly. He is incredible in this role! I was at the first preview, as well, so this was my second time around, and I loved it both times. I really hope this show succeeds. It's one of my favorites in recent memory.
