Congrats, MaddieBB12! I knew someone with a better memory would know. It might've even happened one other time before that, but 2014 is a precedent. ... I don't, however, see rescheduling the opening to another night as another show as ''a dick move.'' I think most everyone would understand. But one thing at a time: Let's hope Andy has recovered & is healthy enough to do his show.

My guess would be to postpone to the 27th and share the night with A Doll's House P2. Either Andy1 gets 12 days to rest and gets back in shape or Andy2 gets a shot at whipping a first rate performance into shape. I'm sure the producers are hoping to parlay this into a winning strategy. The star recovers and gets lots of love or the understudy steps in and becomes a star. It's the excitement of live theatre where anything can happen. I can see both press strategies being a help to the show.

I really hope he can recover quickly. He is incredible in this role! I was at the first preview, as well, so this was my second time around, and I loved it both times. I really hope this show succeeds. It's one of my favorites in recent memory"
Spoilers for your spoilers on how they do it
Not Trapdoors. He gets substituted with a double (with a Groundhog hat on, or in the shower, ...) and then moved behind a crowd to the back of the bed. The mattress has a split so he can climb in from behind
(I've seen it a few times)
For anyone who might be interested, TodayTix has seats available for opening (for now) on Monday if anyone wants to see how the night plays out in real time. A friend of mine is going, so I'll be really interested to hear how things go/what the producers decide/if Andy performs.

Ticketmaster and the box office have had rear Mez for the opening up for a few days

What a sucky thing to have happened....after all of his dedication to the show...and he is such a great guy. I don't know the injury and am not a doctor but I think it would be foolish for him to rush back in such a demanding role.. Postpone the opening to give him time and therapy. There have been other double opening nights. If he reinjures himself, it will only get worse for him. I ran into Ramin on the st. after his knee injury- also a great friendly man. Quick healing Andy!!!!!!!

Unfortunately word on the street is that opening will go as plan on Monday with Andrew Call in the role. Expect a press release tomorrow AM.
Is a 17 million dollar production, the show will go ON
Oh dang. Hope the committee understands and let him have the nomination

Holy crap. Doesn't that mean Call would be technically eligible for the Tony...?
This reminds me, somewhat, of SMASH....When Karen Cartwright has to go on for Rebecca Duvall. Best wishes to Andy Karl.

Like I said "word on the street". They are assessing the situation. Is very tricky.
That would suck for Andy. At least he got an Olivier out of it.
they would have to decide sometime tomorrow if they're changing the opening date. Personally, I don't see it happening. Too much shuffling with ticket holders.
Chris Jones (of the Chicago Tribune) tweeting that it will be postponed...

Of course I want Andy Karl to get all the good notices he deserves after his stint in London and the show moving to Broadway. But I am equally concerned that he not come back prematurely either. It isn't worth risking your entire performing future for one opening night. Wishing him all the best, as he deserves.
Would someone explain the meaning of "tweaked"? (in reference to Andy Karl's injury)
Tweaked: when something goes wrong with a body part and it hurts, but a diagnosis hasn't been made it. Also another way of saying something is sprained, strained, hyper-extended, etc. Typically when someone says it, it frequently isn't a bad injury, but its often said without a seeing a doctor/specialist.

Well in the sports world tweaked can mean two things. First if the injury just happened "tweaked" usually means no structural damage etc, more like a strain, or sprain or something along those lines. If you already have an injury and you "tweak" it that means you have aggravated the injury, maybe from trying to play too soon, without it being fully healed. Thus you take a step backwards in the healing process. Im no doctor (to be clear) but for us layman I think thats the just of it....

He did say nothing was broken, so I'd hope for the best, but knee injuries can be a mixed bag. I really hope he's alright! Absolutely love him in this role, and I wish him the best in his recovery.
Postponing a few days?? So maybe they're looking to open on Thursday?

It didn't say "a few days," it says "several days."
And I wouldn't jump to believe every tweet you see!

I do see that Ticketmaster has stopped selling tickets for the opening night (they were selliing the last row or two), so it seems that they are at least considering what to do

A sprain or strain is in fact structural damage if the musculature is not adequately supporting weight or permitting a full range of motion.
