Definitely a big boost from the Holiday weekend. As for Merrily, if only Mr. Sondheim were still alive to see how successful this production has been! Especially since it made over $2 million last week!
Wow, is that Sweeney's best week ever?
As expected, big jumps for some of the stalwarts. That's a serious ouch for A Beautiful Noise, How to Dance in Ohio, Harmony and Purlie. To actually go down on Thanksgiving week? Eek
Nice final week for Here Lies Love.
Unfortunately, most of the new titles suffered even throughout this lucrative week. Spamalot, on the other hand, wow!

A Beautiful Noise is a weird entity in that even its lowest capacity would still have decent grosses. Though I do wonder if most of the shows having Friday matinees stole some of its thunder.
OHIO is off to a very depressing start and I can’t see this really getting any better unless the Parade performance works some kind of miracle.
Harmony also took a major capacity slam this week too, but their grosses didn’t seem to drop all that much.
HLL going out on a high note was lovely to see, but also makes me think what could’ve been possible had they announced a January closing instead of killing it off now.
PURLIE is also odd in that the ATP is over $100, but the capacities are low. I know they also had an odd schedule this week and Vanessa Bell Calloway was on vacation (her daughter got married) as well (though I don’t know what, if any, impact that had)
Bad numbers for Ohio but they only had six performances last week? Strange.

I was just coming here to say this. I won't write off OHIO because this is just a second week of previews, but the future looks grim for HARMONY and to a lesser extent ABN. It's pretty bad for a show to be half-full Thanksgiving week.

Nice jump for Spamalot. Not sure how that’s sustainable for Ohio.
At Harmony on Sunday and the place felt almost half empty
I've seen quite a few new investors attached to H2DIO, many first time co-pros
Thus beginning the trend-- that many of these shows will not (and do not) have their full capitalization before moving into theaters, leading into awkward last minute money conversations

Do we think Harmony will make it past January? Doesn't really look good for a newer show to have such low numbers during a holiday week.

Considering the considerable amount of press that Barry has done for the show, if this is the best they can do in a holiday week then I don't think there's much hope for it running past Jan.
Also depends on if Shubert has another tenant knocking on the door for the Barrymore.
If Barry or another deep-pocketed investor wants to pour money into it so they can limp along through the spring with half-full houses, that's their money, but they'd have to survive 5 long months just to get to the Tony nominations. Maybe it could still tour (non-Eq) or get licensed (though that's a lot of talented men needed) on the strength of Manilow's name.
ABN likely broke even for this week. Note their average ticket price being $144. What's also interesting is they currently don't have a discount code available. Also of note, Nick Fradiani's salary is lower than what Will Swenson was getting. Not sure how significantly lower it is or how high Will's was, but Nick's lower salary is helping lower their weekly costs by a little.
I wonder if Howland and Tysen want the Barrymore once again for The Great Gatsby.

After Paradise Square, I'm not sure they would get it...

I'm sure they have SO many good memories about their time in PARADISE 😜 Jokes aside, a writer of their stature's wants are irrelevant when it comes to being given a theatre. I assume the producers would prefer a larger house, considering the scale of the show (26 in the cast and 15 in the band at Paper Mill) and the hope that it could be a big hit, but there have been so many conflicting reports about next steps for that show.
Some these bumps are absolutely astounding; I understand it was a holiday week and dynamic pricing is in play here, but going up an extra 500,000 to 700,000 dollars is just nuts to me. What may be a drop in the bucket for some shows, would be life saving for others.

Well, Sweeney's big increase is due to Groban being back.

Purlie’s gross tells me two things/
1. LOJr is not a box office attraction and Danny DeVito is.
2. I thought Purlie would do well last week because it is a comedy; apparently people only want to see musicals or a show with a star box office attraction, and the more proven the musical, the more likely it will do great.

so I’m new to commercial theatre and just started getting into Broadway within the past year. Why does Hamilton have >100% capacity? Updated On: 11/28/23 at 05:41 PM

The show's winter advance is very poor as of now. Don't be surprised to hear a closing notice soon. They may just try to keep the show going to hit 500 performances(Feb. 15).
