Happy trails to JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN, Brent Comer (for now), Jared Dixon, and Charli D’Amelio.

Some of these totals and percent capacities are just bad

$380k? Wow. “Not since Cabaret…”

I guess the other drops might be expected with school back etc. but I’m sure they’re all hoping to improve before long. Because they’re some very big drops indeed.

You can always count on me 🎶

More than half of the shows are in some kind of trouble. Broadway should be very worried right now.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Yeah, I audibly said "whoa!" when I saw those numbers.

My thoughts -

- "& Juliet" should be worried.

- Now I see why Alicia Keys is performing after certain performances.

- MHE seems like it might survive the controversy

- Good for Jinkx for keeping it steady at the Lyceum

- Some of these drops are intense!

- Those Wicked numbers are about to get even more insane

I think this is the first time The Outsiders has dropped below 1 million since before the 2024 Tony Awards

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/7/25

With school back in session, it’s clear that this week has shown us the firm divide between shows that will either sink or float with only two shows (in my opinion) that are riding the middle - BVSC and Mincemeat. With such a small amount of new productions this fall and many looking grim, I agree that Broadway may have a very sad winter coming up

That CABARET number is PAINFUL considering they were able to pull in that much over one or two performances this time last year.

I’m also kind of shocked that ART has had such a blockbuster start, considering it just sort of dropped in unexpectedly. I also thought Corden would’ve been more of a drawback (even with the draw of Harris and Cannavale), but maybe Broadway is forgiving him(?) - it’s still too early to tell what the long term wins will be.

Wow. These numbers are terrible across the board. My first thought was are these numbers actually real or have mistakes been made in the data processing?

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

These drops are not good. This is never a particularly amazing time for Broadway, but drops like this are really unusual. Of the shows that were running this time last year, only Hadestown, Hamilton, Oh Mary, and Wicked did not see drops in gross.

I saw these numbers and assumed Broadway week had already started and that's why the grosses were so bad (I don't know much about Broadway week but I know some shows have 2 for 1 and I was trying to think of anything to explain these insanely low numbers).

I'm guessing the anti Corden stuff is mostly a social media phenomenon and the type of audience that attends starry Broadway plays doesn't really know or care about the Corden backlash.

US tourism decline is finally reflected in real numbers for Broadway. Canadians do not want to come here anymore. Not only that but overall economy due to tariffs and unemployment is awful. Broke people trying to catch up on rent and groceries, applying to hundreds of jobs that were outsourced or automated, don't buy theater tickets.

Worst numbers we've seen in a long while.

Unless they have some kind of stunt casting coup up their sleeve, I think both & Juliet and Hell's Kitchen will wrap it up this winter. Their overall grosses have been trending downward, so they have less opportunity to make up for disastrous weeks like this. I'm surprised we haven't seen more ex-boy band members in & Juliet, but I'm sure casting is asking and maybe those guys just aren't interested.

And then there's Stranger Things, which if it were not for the Netflix factor, would be closed by now. The series finale of the TV series will drop on December 31. Unless they see a major uptick after Season 5 debuts in late November (I assume there will be SOME renewed interest in First Shadow at that time, but whether its enough to turn the tides is another question), it would be wise to announce a winter closing.

I've seen a lot of Australians commenting that they have cancelled trips to the US or those who would normally make a trip in December to see theatre over the Christmas break won't be doing so this year because they don't want to go to the US right now.

A friend and I where saying not long ago that if the election had gone differently we'd be doing our best to get over to see Chess but we aren't willing to do so now.

Multiply that by all the other countries where tourists normally flock to NYC and you have a big problem.

No one wants to come here and the people who live here have to be a lot more careful with money lately. Fun times.

With numbers like these, I think it could be safe to assume that the 2025/26 season could be Broadway's last...

Broadway has survived the Great Depression, wars, NYC's near-bankruptcy in the 70s, AIDS, 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, COVID, but, yeah, sure, let's call it based off of this week's grosses.

Correct. Stunt casting or affordable options may not matter any longer when people are fighting to stay afloat. It's very, very rough out there for everyone.  Frivolous spending areas like Las Vegas, Broadway, restaurants, usual border towns tourist spots already suffer from plunged tourism. Elections have consequences is the conclusion.

Poppycock.

The business model, though - that's going to need some evolution.  Down with the gatekeepers, up with culturally vital new shows.

But can it survive the policies implemented by the second Trump administration causing international tourism to go down as well as the overall economy due to tariffs and unemployment??? I really don't know...
