That would certainly be a huge get. But remember when she was circling COMPANY too and then decided against it? Crossing fingers, but I'll believe it when I see it!
If this is true, I think they will charge crazy prices for tickets. I don't think they'll succeed at selling tickets at those prices unless reviews are stellar.
If she'd been in The Devil Wears Prada musical, that would have sold tickets. If she'd been in Company, that would have sold tickets. Even though there's been chatter about her vaguely looking like Judy (not that it would matter for this role), I don't think that's enough for people to want to see her in this show.
I think of her voice as an airy soprano. This is the closest I can remember to her belting.
I miss the days when my first thought and concern upon hearing about the casting of a lead role in a big Broadway musical wasn’t about whether or not the performer could sing the material better than mediocrely.
If I were Anne Hathaway, I’d insist to have it put in my contract that I was the final decider when it comes to the casting of my standby, and I’d make sure that person was tone deaf, cross-eyed and toothless.

You just described her performance in the Les Mis movie.
I have enjoyed Anne since Princess Diaries. I thought she acted Fantine beautifully.
I can't say I LOVE her voice, but I do think if she wanted to do Broadway, she do as an earlier posted said and lead a revival of a classic musical. I think should we make a lovely Maria in SOM or Eliza in MFL.
Someone on twitter posted "bald bway gossip guy on tiktok saying anne hathaway and jeremy jordan are gonna be the leads of new york new york" Apparently that's @sweatyoracle on Tiktok, per the comments.
IS Anne Hathaway an A-lister? I like her, and God knows both those who intensely follow Hollywood and those who make up the movie world of show business all seem to adore her. But aren't most of her movies either sleepers or flops?
Seems to me she's kinda the Barbara Cook of movies--an insider's favorite who never quite broke through to mainstream success. For just that reason, I think she's make a splash on Broadway, somewhat like Angela Lansbury (another insiders' favorite, but with a better movie track record) did.
Hugh Jackman wanted to produce a movie remake of Carousel with himself as Billy Bigelow and Hathaway as Julie Jordon. It seems he can't get that to happen, but couldn't he make a Broadway revival starring the two of them happen? I think it would be magic.

These movies are already classics. They’re huge.
Regardless, I don’t see this rumor proving to be true."
You didn't see the word "most" in my comment, did you?
Two movies from the 00's (that they are both classics is arguable--but for the sake of the discussion, I'll go along) is enough to maintain someone's position as an A-lister twenty-something years later?
I was referring to “an insider's favorite who never quite broke through to mainstream success.” I just find that comment a little perplexing with the major success of the movies I mentioned as well as Brokeback Mountain and Les Miserables. She even had a singing moment on Kelly Clarkson that went majorly viral a few months ago. I’m not attacking, just disagreeing.
I think Anne Hathaway is someone who is a star of two classic movies that are very rewatchable between generations and it will sustain her relevance for a very long time. And yes on top of it she was in Brokeback Mountain and won an Oscar for Les Miserables. I’d say she’s a pretty big star that would be welcomed back to theater with open arms (I think she was absolutely sensational in Twelfth Night years ago). But I am sure she will do it in the right project that shows her off the right way.

Fair response, and sorry for being snippy on my side.
I'm less making a definitive case than asking a question. It just doesn't seem to me she's had enough hits or accrued enough of fan-base to be an A-lister at this point, though maybe that isn't even the definition of an A-lister, anymore. Everyone in the industry seems to want her to be a big thing, and definitely people who really care about movies single her out as a shining presence. But her name above the title doesn't guarantee box office, and she hasn't had a hit in about a decade.
I think a strong comparison can be made between her work up till now and and Angela Lansbury's film career. Brokeback Mountain is her Picture of Dorian Gray (literary adaptation for a niche audience), Devil Wears Prada is her National Velvet (blockbuster popular success), Princess Diaries is her Bedknobs and Broomsticks (children's film), Les Mis is her Death on the Nile (star-studded showcase). And as great as she was, Lansbury was never considered an A-lister--Hollywood only saw her as a name when she broke through on television with Murder, She Wrote.
Don't get me wrong--Hathaway is extremely talented, and I think she has genuine star presence. That I'm comparing her to Lansbury demonstrates my affection. I'm just not sure she's an A-lister.

We're you born in the 1920s? I think people have been debating this sort of things for decades.
