Now, how does one do that when you enter through security show your ticket scanned from your phone is already out? So how does one keep your phone then in your pocket as all this goes by quickly when entering?"
Try to get a printed ticket. I'm going to do that at the box office and say I didn't bring my phone. I just got my new phone last week and there's no way I'm putting a sticker on it with glue. I'd rather not go at all than ruin my thousand-dollar phone.

Roundabout has already remounted the Mendes production, and that remount didn’t even last a year (and anybody who claims Roundabout wasn’t hoping/expecting it to last longer doesn’t know what they are talking about)

Mendes version is very hard to cast since the ensemble have to act, sing, dance, and play an instrument! In any Cabaret revival, you'll need A-list celebs either as the Emcee and/or Sally Bowles to sell tickets and recoup. It would be cool if they can cast Emma Stone again as Sally Bowles. She's now 35 years old with 2 Oscars. Back when she performed in Cabaret as Sally Bowles back in 2014, she was 26 years old with no Oscar wins yet.

To the people who are deeply fond of the production, there is no point in venting spleen trying to convince people who have already made up their minds. I would argue it's better if they don't end up going, no?

More to the point, exactly which costume from that production with its parade of dirty white slips, is supposed to have been 'wonderful' ?

Emma Stone recently described doing Cabaret as "The hardest thing I've ever done" and doesn't sound too keen on doing something like that again.

The ripped stockings, sallys pink feather boa, her all black ensemble for mein herr, the brown fur coat, her black slip at the end, emcees trench coat. The costumes felt more naturalistic to the time than some of the funky colors I’m seeing in this revival.

This may sound dumb, but what about going to a convenience store before the show and getting some scotch tape to put over the camera? That way, they can put the sticker over the phone camera and the tape will protect the lens. Again, if that's a dumb idea then forget it.

What about saying, "I've heard that your stickers are hard to remove, and leave residue. I'm perfectly capable of not taking pictures if that's the rule, so I'd rather not put anything on my phone, if that's ok?"
This doesn't sound like a complicated issue to me.

That works, but only if the staff allows it.
If not, I might just pull it off once I'm seated.

I understand not wanting the residue on your phone, but are you seriously so addicted to it that you need to go through lying to the people in the theater?

I haven't seen the production yet, but having seen all of their promo pics from London, I think it's safe to say that visually this production is not completely period-specific. The costume, hair and makeup designs as well as the use of a hand-held microphone make that clear. I don't know the reason but it's an intentional choice the director has made.

I am not Frecknall, but I interpreted the costumes and handheld mic not being specifically period because it blurred the lines between what happened then, and still is happening today. The original costumes for London were allegedly designed to be pieces anyone could easily see in a queer space today, as well as Reigen artwork from 1927.
And for crying out loud, I cannot imagine anything more sleep-inducing than that Mendes/Marshall production being brought out of moth balls again. We have all seen it, one way or another. Practically every production since 1998 has stolen that production’s themes, and even the 2014 revival smelled like grandma’s fur coat. I loved that Frecknall’s production is nothing like that mounting except for the book edit and song list, leaving the rest to the new creative team’s imaginations. Time for something fresh.

Because lying to the people at the theater is worse than lying to your boss, your spouse, your clergy?
I'm not opposed to the action itself, but if the residue is as we've been told here - they don't have the right to damage my property. Even if it's just cosmetic.

That’s what seems so silly about this solution. Anyone hell bent on taking pictures and/or recording is going to pull off the tape. Anyone concerned about leaving residue on their phone is going to remove the tape. Anyone oblivious to this entire conversation is going to take their phone home and be pissed when they realize the aftereffect. I’ve got to believe they are pursuing a better solution.

As other people have already posted, clearly the stickers act as a deterrent and are quite effective at getting people to buy into the concept and not pull out their phones. They just need to ask whoever made it for them for London.

What are the chances of this cast getting a recording? I’m assuming slim to none (with the excuse of having Eddie Redmayne’s live performance on an album already).
However, with the rest of the cast being brand new (and including theater legend Bebe Neuwirth in a role people are already giving her raves for) I’d love to see this be in the works.

I feel like with Eddie's contract being so short, if anything they will wait for the next Emcee and do a recording then. Kind of like Kiss of the Spider Woman where they waited for Vanessa Williams to replace Chita since she had already done the London recording.

Explain how not wanting to damage a $1000 phone means someone is "seriously so addicted to it"?

Though with Spider Woman it wasn’t just Chita. All of the principals on the original recording also opened the show on Broadway. That recording wasn’t even originally labeled a “London Cast Recording,” just simply the “Original Cast Recording.”

I had forgotten Eddie and Gayle were only in this until 8/31. Wonder if all future casting pairs will be “shorter” stunts like this.

They've extended a bit, and wouldn't be surprised to see them extend further. From the site.
Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin star as the Emcee and Sally Bowles through Saturday, September 14, 2024. All star absences will be posted on the specific SeatGeek performance page. Casting for performances beginning September 16, 2024 will be announced soon.

Not wanting to get residue on it does not mean you're addicted to your phone. Maybe the poster needs the phone before or after the show. It's not unreasonable to both need your phone and not want residue on it and if that's the case, a little white lie might be necessary and it hurts no one...

the point of the stickers is so people can still access their phone, if they didn't want people to have the phones at all they would do a pouch

So was that an intentional "stunt" or a mistyped "stint"? The power of one vowel to change the entire meaning.
