I can hardly listen to the London cast recording anymore. For some reason, the orchestra sounds low and tinny, whereas on Broadway it sounds bright and full. The accents are a mess, and while Rosalie Craig has a pleasant enough voice she doesn’t interpret the songs as deeply as Lenk. Also, it would be nice to have some of the changes to the lyrics and orchestrations recorded. For instance, Lenk’s “Being Alive” has almost a brand new orchestration, this was changed during 2021 previews.
Sometimes I get nostalgic listening to the London cast recording - feels so innocent like a pre-covid poem/postcard of how a bunch of British people approximate what it means and feels like to be in New York. But the Broadway production between the performances, COVID and Sondheim’s death feels so important and iconic it would be an absolute tragedy for me if it weren’t recorded. I am shocked it may not happen. I still have hope though.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Totally agree.
I used to think the LCR was so good until I saw it on Broadway. The orchestra from the LCR is so small and bland. On Broadway, It's fuller, richer and having much more details.
Agree on the London recording being subpar. Even before I saw the Broadway production, I didn't care for that recording. It sounded even worse afterward.
For those who didn't see it, BrodyFosse posted some scoop about why there won't be a recording at #29 in the other thread (if you choose to believe it)--it's not the money, it's the rights:
Sounds like a good reason to release a proshot to me.

Same! Katrina is perfection in this role. Can we also acknowledge that the only time she has missed so far is when she had covid! She is a force of nature and pours her heart and soul into this show. I’m so furious with the nominating committee for not recognizing her brilliance.

Id still give it to Sharon Clarke, period end of sentence. A crime that production was so overlooked. I maintain my frustration in just slighting the fall shows every year like that.
Hard to argue with Mare Winningham's crazy good performance but no shade Carmen Cusack, that slot is Katrina's.
Sharon was amazing and I was banking on her to win. I was thrilled to have Caroline back on Broadway but felt the entire production was inferior to the original which has lessened my enthusiasm for it a bit. As the months have gone on, I feel most haunted by Katrina's performance and truly can't believe she wasn't even nominated.

The only one this season I didn't see was Sharon, but I completely agree with you. Katrina's performance just stays with you. It's my single favorite performance in the over a hundred Broadway shows I have seen. I am still in shock that Sutton (who I adore, but doesn't do much with the role) was nominated and Katrina wasn't.

They have nominated 7 actors in the leading actor in a play category
why couldn't they just add another slot for Katrina ?
Ppl may have different opinions on Katrina's vocal. But her acting IMO, especially in recent months, has been better than ALL the nominees in the Leading Actress in a Musical category this year.

Thank you so much! I was going back and forth on whether or not to see it, but finally snagged one of those seats. Thank you!
Full cast on this afternoon and indeed, on fire. So glad to see this one more time before it closes and still praying to the theater gods for a recording.
Not to sound old but for those that don’t use Tick Tock (lol) what does it say?

It basically just explains in a little detail the copyright issues keeping them from making a cast recording of the Broadway production. He does mention at the end that these issues wouldn't get in the way of a pro-shot video and, really, if we had a pro-shot, someone out there could do an audio rip and make a sort of cast recording! It would be the best of both worlds. No?
