Rent
"Get the moonlight out of your hair!"
I burst out laughing when I hear that.
""Anyway, my vote goes to...well, anything in "Carousel," but especially the whole of "June Is Bustin' Out All Over.""
Oh God. Facepalm.
42nd Street is chalk full of 'em, as is Beauty and the Beast.
"There's so little left of me...so...little...left" -Beast.
"Don't take too long, you know how impatient tenors are" (or something like that) -Billy
And much much more that I can't remember.
Help! It's been years since I saw HAIRSPRAY, and now I have to design Tracy's jail cell in such a way that the line makes sense:
"They can stop us from kissing, but they can't stop us from singing!"
How exactly are they being stopped from kissing?? The script says they "try" to kiss through the jail bars (and presumably fail). Are the bars really so close together that their LIPS can't touch??
Does anyone remember what this line referred to specifically? I'm fighting a deadline, and haven't been able to find a satisfactory explanation as to how this moment is supposed to work onstage!

I adore WICKED and to be honest, I think the simplicity of the lyrics go a whole lot deeper then what most musicals aim for. And I think the way Schwartz used double meaning for alot of the songs ("Defying Gravity" and "For Good") is brilliant. Especially in a show that revolves around looking at things another way.
Speaking of which...that line irks me to no end from WICKED hahaha
"Its not lying...its looking at things a different way"
I know...its kinda the whole point of the show in a single line but I wish they worded it less...cheesy haha
I have no patience or tolerance for cheesy lines. No matter how good the show is, if there's a cheesey line it drives me insane. Just a strong pet peeve of mine.
From Catch Me If You Can: the mother of his bride-to-be describes Frank as a "Big hunky Hunk of You BetchYa"
Love it :) she is very funny

I think the worst line ever written in musical theater goes to Victor/Victoria...
"Victor/Victoria, Victor/Victoria, Victoria what a Victor you are..."
UGH! This little gem of a line makes my ears bleed

"At the truly uproarious
Glamorous, glorious
Steel Pier"
How can a pier be "uproarious"?
Worst dialogue:
"I'll dig ditches! I'll haul rocks!" - Tzeitel, Fiddler on the Roof.
I'm directing a production of Cinderella right now, and there's just no getting past this little exchange:
Cinderella: "I'm afraid that if I speak, I might wake up."
Prince: "Are you dreaming that I'm about to kiss you?"
I think every musical has a cheesy line. It's just difficult to avoid, I feel.
The song "Maria" from West Side Story. Holy crap. You two have just met, really? It drives me nuts.
I have only listened to a few songs from Jekyll and Hyde, but "In His Eyes"... oh wait, you said good shows. Never mind.

"That boy could use some Prozac"
"Or heavy drugs"
"Or group hugs"
Just makes me cringe.
From WOMEN ON THE VERGE:
"I should fire that maid!"
"That's not the maid, that's Marisa, my fiance."
"...I think you're wrong."

Man, some Elphaba/Fiyero pairings have been able to sell it well, but that line is pure Velveeta.
Changing it up a little bit: I love "next to normal" to the point of ridiculousness, but this exchange drives me bananas:
Diana: "I don't even remember marrying this man. It's not like I'm some sexually-frustrated soccer mom!"
Dr. Madden: "Interestingly, the underlying challenges are similar. See you next week."

Rent has so many, but am surprised no one has mentioned (though the moonlight line is from the same song)
"Who do you think you are
Barging in on me and my guitar?
Little girl, hey!
The door is that way!"

"27 dolls" I don't know if it is cheesy or just bad, but there it is.

I'm playing The Cat in the Hat right now in Seussical and I'm having the time of my life. I know that the show is meant to be kinda corny and "kiddie" but I have real problems with the delivery of the Cat's first few lines because they are a bit overly corny!
"I can see that you've got quite a mind for your age! Why, one think, and you dragged me right onto the stage! Now I'm here! There's no telling what may ensue with a Cat such as men and a thinker like you!"
Love the show but those lines are a bit awkward.
^ I feel ya...I was in that show a few years ago and that score/book is littered with cheesiness.
However, a word of advice...just have fun with it :) that show was practically made with corniness in mind and if you try to deliver the lines with seriousness...your gonna look like your trying to force it. The Cat is meant to be this out of the world personality who does not take things with a hint of seriousness, so just portray that :)
