Manifesting Patrick Page as Cladwell. Or Jeff McCarthy.
I've always felt Urinetown has even more layers when done race-consciously: Cladwell & the cops are white, and Bobby, Little Sally, and much of the rebel poor are people of color.
Wonder if they expand the orchestration at all? The 5-piece is great but I know Bruce Coughlin has always lamented that he couldn't have a trumpet or a few other instruments in the original. Throw an accordion or harmonium in there to REALLY lean into the Kurt Weill of it all.

I love big lush orchestras as much as the next guy, but the 5-piece is iconic. There is something really incredible about how much richness and color Coughlin was able to get out of such a small combo.
Show me the law that says Jeff McCarthy and Spencer Kayden can't come back as Lockstock and Little Sally.

oh to be clear I didn't mean a BIG orchestra. Just something in the 6-10 range. But like I said, I love the 5-piece and the way that the trombone/euph and reed covers for strings, horn, and trumpet.
What a lineup this is! Wow! Bummed I will miss it, though, but I would sell my soul to see Ragtime!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
I honestly could not have dreamed up a better Encores season. Seeing the original production of Urinetown (with most of the original company) as a kid is one of my most treasured theatregoing memories, so I'm very excited to revisit it as an adult as I haven't seen it since then. Bonnie Milligan as Pennywise would be inspired, and the announced casting for Ragtime is absolutely perfect.
This season is great, and the cast announced for ragtime(so far) is incredible. My optimism goes away at Lear deBessonet directing, though. Hopefully she proves me wrong, but I feel like she’ll just butcher the show.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

Some of the cast they are goin after are fantastic names.
Those are 3 fantastic options for shows, I mean, wow!
I for sure can't see them all, and it's sad that the one I certainly won't is Urinetown, but if they cast a perfect Dolores, I will just have to see Wild Party, no matter what!
We are reclaiming that Tony for Best Musical at City Center!!!

I doubt she'll butcher the show, but one of these days I would like to see a Black director's production of Ragtime in New York City.

I also don't really think Ragtime is butcherable tbh, I've seen not so great productions but the show is still effective bc the text is so good.
