"It's so weird about people bitching about something they are not being forced to see. Wild."
Lol. This is a chat board where we discuss how we feel about theatre related projects. Sometimes people are going to feel very upset and passionate about a project they were potentially very much looking forward to. So weird someone who appears to post regularly on this website doesn't get that. Wild.
Here's the thing, they still can look forward to it. No one has seen it yet. So, they wouldn't know if they love it or not. Give it a chance instead of complaining. Watch it and then complain!
What a wild concept.
The clip showing Ben Platt's singing was pretty good all things considered, but think of what would've happened if Andrew Feldman played the role.

Andrew would've nailed the gawky, awkward teen energy in a more believable way and plus he's actually a really good singer. I think my only problem with Ben so far is that he, and the movie, looks like it's trying a bit too hard.
Universal really wants a musical film adaptation redemption story after what happened back in December of 2019...
Just saw a commercial for Dear Evan Hanson movie… and… eek! That wig! Yuck! Ben’s looking a bit long in the tooth to play a high schooler!

Huge piece on DEH in Hollywood Reporter this morning (both the evolution of the stage musical and the movie)... some pretty interesting stuff:

^ I was expecting Connors new solo to be mentioned and why it’s the new finale. I’m guessing they’ll keep the resolution’s same meaning where the past hasn’t left Evan yet but with accepting himself shows certainty that one day it will be.
Great article. Connor is my favorite character, and the fact that it's Colton Ryan who is gorgeous and can actually act is just icing on the cake. Ending with him always made sense to me. Looking forward!
I think it's pretty neat that they're expanding the film's third act about what Evan had to do to redeem himself after telling the truth to the Murphy family is a really good idea. I think him getting away with everything he did has been a contentious problem with the musical from day one, so that's one thing I'm looking forward to seeing.

^But it won’t be enough to change my mind
^ Cool. Don't go. Problem solved.
The bonus tracks for the soundtrack have been announced with songs being covered by pop artists: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTP4Vjfn4ou/
You Will Be Found by Sam Smith featuring Summer Walker.
The Anonymous Ones by SZA.
Only Us by Carrie Underwood and Dan + Shay.
A Little Closer by FINNEAS.
Waving Through A Window by Tori Kelly.
Oh man, what talented people. Cannot wait to hear!

I wasn’t crazy about the bittersweet ending
With the stage show? Yeah, a lot of people felt that way. I thought this mentally ill kid had suffered enough. But, that's just my opinion.
The ending of this will be different though. I hope you give it a chance, someday.

^ I’ve suffered enough too as someone who’s autistic, a big army of loved ones, no girlfriend, a recent college graduate and no time for people around my age. COVID managed to give me a bit of second thoughts of going into the show prepared for Evan to go back to how he started and gained no circle of friends outside Heidi or the Murphy’s. I’m more in the mood for a fun optimistic musical.
Respect. I hope things get better for you, truly, and that you find a fun musical to really enjoy.

^ Thank you. I loved the music more so than the story. I connected with Evans social anxiety. And yet I never hated myself at all. I have autism. I would be hyped for this movie when I was a senior ten years ago and if DEH existed. And I do hope DEH gives comfort to those who need it Most right now. Especially those like me who are struggling to move forward out of school and still live with their parents.

Do we know for sure it’s the finale? Since it’s last on the cast recording I was wondering if it could be the song playing over the credits (we all know musical movies love to put their original songs over the credits a la Hairspray, In The Heights, Chicago, etc.)
Also unrelated but the reality show Big Brother is having a segment on DEH on their Wednesday episode. As a prize for winning a competition, a couple of the contestants will get to watch a screening of the film so I suspect we may get some new footage along with videos of them all watching it and talking about how it’s the best movie ever made and we all need to see it immediately (as it tends to go with these types of segments).

Thanks so much for the heads up! Hopefully there will also be a commercial or two aired as well - maybe even a new one?! We need the marketing to get into gear!

My guess is Connor’s new song will go along with the new “third act” showing Evan reading the books on Conner’s list, making some amends, etc….actually becoming “A Little Closer” to Connor.
After which the film will likely end the same as the stage version…the same scene in the orchard with Zoe. Probably end the same musically as well but since it’s not a full song, was not put on the soundtrack. “All I see is sky for forever…”
