Jesus. This board is bitching about a DEH movie but all excited about a Prom movie? The Prom no matter how you slice and dice it has an inferior book and score to DEH.

I thought Murphy's The Prom was likable, but all of the onstage version's flaws were much more evident on screen. Here's hoping Hansen can avoid such pitfalls- Chbosky seems like the right guy to steer this ship.

Are you new here? This board bitches about everything.
Every musical adaptation that spends forever in development hell...DEH just said “this is how it’s done!”"
To be fair, DEH as a musical is a lot easier to develop - it's modern music, set in modern times, not really any choreography, a school and some houses as locations, no large ensemble, it's more a drama than anything else, everyone involved is still alive and the book writer is adapting his own screenplay after already making a novel out his book, so the legwork is done in many respects.

I had heard from someone who's involved with the film, I don't know if it was Ben Platt or Stephen Chbosky, that the number "You Will Be Found" is going to be a "large scale thrill on the screen". Of course taking an intimate small musical like this and translating it to screen to be bigger and bolder is a choice that can work either really well or fall flat on it's face.
I am going to watch this but I will say that out of all four of 2021's movie musicals coming out, this is the one I'm not sure about due to me not being a fan of the show (I don't hate it) and on how well it's going to translate on screen. But it still has bigger advantages in comparison to Cats so that helps a little.

Actually that one has been pushed to a TBA date, the fourth movie musical coming out is Lin Manuel Miranda's film adaptation of Tick..Tick..Boom! that will be released this year on Netflix.
Is it still for 2021? I mean it's still listed for 2021 on IMDB but I haven't seen that from everywhere else. If it does get a new later date for 2021 then we will have 5 movie musicals from Hollywood; all adapted from stage musicals.
There’s also the Joe Wright directed adaptation of off-Broadway’s musical “Cyrano” with Peter Dinklage reprising his role... BUT this might be bumped into early ‘22.
I think Jamie is technically just TBD as opposed to TBD 2021, but unless they decide releasing it in Q3-4 of this year would lead to oversaturation with all the other musicals coming out I would be sort of surprised if it came out any later than 2021, considering it's basically 100% done and was on the cusp of releasing a month or so ago. I don't know enough about the film industry to say for sure, anything can happen I suppose. Superficial guess.
West Side Story has released it's teaser trailer, while Dear Evan Hansen has yet to release any official photos or a teaser trailer for this movie. Should I take it as a sign or something?

Well, The Prom didn’t release their teaser until less than 2 months before its Netflix premiere date, so you never know.
The thing is though, Netflix has always done that sort of marketing for a long time. This is meant to be a theatrically released film by Universal, so honestly I have no infernal clue why they're being so secretive about it.
Maybe it’s gonna get pushed back. Which honestly wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen. In the Heights and West Side Story are already hotly anticipated musical adaptations, and there’s several other major releases, maybe it would be best to just push the release back a bit so it won’t have to compete and can spend more then building up buzz.

The only problems i was hearing with The Prom film were with James Corden. Were there other issues? OH and perhaps not casting as many Broadway cast members as they could have/should have?
