And so it begins...

Ugh. I won't be back in the city by then and I really wanted to see these. Sorry to hear this.

Disappointing news, but unfortunately not surprising.
I saw both plays this weekend via Show-Score. I really loved DANA H and highly recommend people see it before it closes.

The long string of early closing notices is underway. That's what I mean

Unfortunately some shows are a hard sell and are more suited for off-Broadway. Dana H, and I assume Room, are two of those plays.

Too bad but with the glut of new plays and returning musicals, it just got lost in the shuffle.

I predict a winter with just a handful of shows running. Broadway opened too soon.

Oof, this is sad. I had thought the low costs of both of these productions might've been able to help them tough it out for longer.

Thoughts of a Colored Man and Chicken & Biscuits would almost certainly post closing before Mockingbird.
The issue with Mockingbird is that we don't know its appetite without a star. If they can get a major name to come in after Daniels leaves in January, that's great. But these moneycounters aren't Rudin and if it starts bleeding money, there's no reason to keep it running. It's a large play. And if there's not a ton of tourists and NYC audiences already saw it with Jeff Daniels or Ed Harris, well...
By announcing 3 weeks out, it gives interested theatergoers a chance to buy or reschedule, which could give the shows an incremental boost in sales.

I think Thoughts of a Colored Man is more likely to close. Chicken and Biscuits seems popular. I see a lot of people talking about it on social media.

No it didn't. In actuality, it probably could have restarted in July.

Do we know how Aladdin has been doing?

Like the Lyceum plays, it has appeared on TDF every performance since it reopened. Though I can't remember if that was the case for Aladdin before the shutdown...

May I ask the original closing dates of these shows? I'm just curious.

January 16

It's easy to look back in hindsight, but I wonder if making them a double-bill was ever considered, since combined the runtime would only be 2:30 incl. intermission and a higher ticket price could be more justifiable for 2 plays? Logistically and artistically might have been tougher than alternating perfs, though, since they have different creative teams/subject matter.
Twitter circles are tiny. Internet chatter means nothing for plays if it's not translating into ticket sales. CHICKEN and THOUGHTS both appear to have only about 1/3 of seats sold this week. THOUGHTS is, bafflingly, scheduled through March –– so it's more a question if they can limp through to January or if they close quicker.

Oh geez, two months early? That blows. Im sorry for all involved.

That's what I was thinking! I could've sworn Aladdin was more popular, prior to the shutdown.

Oh and Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are working on CHICKEN as execs?

I feel like regardless of a star, Mockingbird will still have a good deal of momentum from the name. I think they were still doing fairly strong sales pre-Covid and there still seems to be a good amount of interest now.
Also, has anyone done rush for Is This a Room? Trying to decide whether it would be better to get tickets via rush or TDF.
