I just spoke to telecharge and requested a refund for my wed matinee ticket. They stated to email tickets@telecharge.com and include your order number and request a refund due to star absence. She said they will be reviewing them and will "most likely" issue a refund.

Will Ben be performing Wed (9/6) 8 p.m. evening show?

DEH.com and Telecharge has no mention of it, but Broadway.com does. Any idea of who's right? I'm wondering if Broadway.com hasn't updated the site yet?

I finally got to them. To do a refund, you have to e-mail them.

He's keeping Sunday 3pm shows, right? I have tickets for 10/1. I saw Colton about a month ago and was moved to tears many times - he was amazing but boy, am I excited to see Ben.

I must be cursed, because this is the second time that an uber-popular musical has announced an alternate for their lead actor on the day of the week for which I happen to have bought tickets, after I bought the ticket (first time was Hamilton). I was pissed for like five minutes, then I realized that Ben Platt is nothing to me and the only reason I wanted to see him was because of all the raves on here for his performance. But it sounds like the understudy is just as good if not better, so I'm fine with it.

In terms of the actual understudy himself, why do you think they chose Michael over Colton? It seemed that in the beginning, Colton went on when Ben missed and Michael did Connor and Jared. But, once Michael started going on a few times with Colton, it appeared he was better. Do you think Colton will stay with the show still? Or, will they get one or two more Jared/Michael/Evan standbys if Michael is only matinee Evan and not Jared/Connor? There is no way to know for sure but...

I don't know their reasoning, but I will say that Colton plays a completely different Evan than Ben or MLB do. Ben and MLB are very similar, so it may just be that the people in charge prefer that interpretation and want to use it more. Colton is very good, too, but he is extremely different from the other two.

Either way, all the Evans are great. It's a great role with great showcase options for songs and acting choices. It's one of those award winning roles where I truly believe any capable actor in the part originally could have gotten a giant amount of accolades, etc. the same way that Ben did. I know a lot of people say Ben is the show (and the show itself hasn't done the best job at discouraging this assumption), but in my opinion Evan is the show. Other problems with the show aside, as long as the person in control is capable of carrying the story, I don't think you'll be disappointed. And both Colton and MLB are very capable.

So I called to switch my tickets that I have for 9/6 to a date in February.  When I gave him my alternate date, he said that he had only premium seats.  I flipped stating that I received an email indicating that I could call in for an exchange and that the February date is the only date I will be in the city.  Either they can give me tickets for my next available date or refund my money.  Those are the choices.  He is going to escalate this.  Telecharge and the production company have be be flexible here.  They already have a PR nightmare, especially pulling a "Trump" and dropping this on the Friday of a holiday.  A supervisor is going to call me back on Tuesday to either indicate they've exchanged my tickets for the next available date in February or provide a refund.

I'm getting deja vu. When I saw "Hamilton," 10/4/15, we'd just learned that Javier was doing the Sunday matinees.  The audience arriving was disgruntled, even crazed -- and this was in the first 3 months of "Hamilton" on B'way.  Halfway through "My Shot," the entire house wrapped its arms around the leading man, and the performance was electric.  We all have expectations.  Of course, in hindsight, I would've been more upset missing Odom, Jr.

Nice moment to salute Michael Luwoye, the first actor to play both Burr and Alexander, celebrated by Playbill last October 4th (only a year after the performance noted above) as history making.  Gotta love how B'way overflows with talent. These roles are filled and re-filled, and we all see wonderful performances.

It's up to the producers of shows to give permission to grant refunds. They already informed Telecharge obviously.  It's stated on their website there are no refunds.   For many people, Ben is the show, the producer's realized this, and gave Telecharge the go ahead.

hmm. I had no problem getting a refund. I was hoping to see Ben before he left. I saw MLB last week. I work in midtown so I just dropped by the box office on my way home. They couldn't exchange the tickets for anything before Ben leaves but they were fine refunding me.

A premium ticket popped up on telecharge this morning for an evening show, so I bought that.

Ben Platt to Play Modified Performance Schedule Through Remainder of Dear Evan Hansen Run

Michael Lee Brown will step in for the Tony winner at select performances through November 11.

Standby Michael Lee Brown will take center stage as Evan for the Sunday, September 3 matinee, as well as Wednesday and Saturday matinee performances through November 11.

Platt is currently scheduled to play all shows during his final week.

"hmm. I had no problem getting a refund."

Again, for this show the producers gave them the go ahead for refunds.  It states on their website and the majority of the producers will never issue refunds.  You can change a date, that is about it.  It's different for Dear Evan Hansen, as was previously stated 3 times.

When Noah and taylor take on the role the alternate schedule will stay in place per telecharge. Also MLB will be the alternate through at least Noah's run.

Where are you seeing this? The listing I see on Telecharge says that Michael Lee Brown will only serve as the alternate through November 11th, which would be the remainder of Ben's run.

For what it's worth, though the Telecharge site says Michael and Colton Ryan will both continue to understudy Evan, I heard the show has been looking for a new male understudy to cover Evan, Connor, and Jared starting in November. Not sure what that means but I've also heard chatter that Michael will transition to a standby solely covering Evan going forward.

I have a question for Equity folks or those otherwise in the know:

Who makes the decision that a role is too taxing and requires an alternate schedule?  Is it entirely between producer and actor to decide this?  Or are there any union rules that govern it?  You'd think there could/should be.  I know Evita traditionally has an alternate.  I know that Alex Brightman cut down to six in School of Rock, but don't know if his successors kept that in place.

Obviously Equity would want to protect actors' rights on both sides -- both to perform and to be protected *from* performing if 8 shows a week is not in their best interest.  Just curious if anyone knew where the less-than-8 decisions typically come from.

I won't get to see Ben Platt. I enter the Lottery repeatedly and never have won and I won't spend Premium. I would say a lot of times replacements pale to original performers. But I assume this role is like Christopher in Curious Incident, a role that virtually never leaves the stage and is the center of the show. Tony winner Alex Sharp was brilliant in that role. But so was Taylor Trensch, and so was Benjamin Wheelwright and so was Tyler Lea. I'm taking a deep breath and will see Dear Evan Hansen when it becomes available. My friends have tickets for next April. The show will go on.

Dear Evan Hansen - Ben Platt AttendanceRegarding the last part, I know Nick Sacks was shadowing Faist today. Maybe they are bringing him on full time.

The harsh reality is that MLB and Colton most likely each auditioned for the Alternate promotion - a natural choice would've been to promote Colton, because MLB is the only one of the two men who covers Connor. By choosing to promote MLB, they have to hire another male cover to cover the role of Connor for matinees. Tough lesson in show biz.

Yes, they both cover all three.

As far as the vacation swing, i think Colton is on vacation right now, so it makes sense that the cover be there.
