"It deeply saddens me that there is a facet of the Broadway community that embraces equality, charity, and being welcoming to all- except when it comes time for the accolades and walking down the red carpet"
Oh, they are into all those good things, on the surface and when people are looking. You just can't scratch the surface or look behind the curtain!
Also, I think Jen "Cuddles" Cody would direct a remarkable Tonys show. Of course she would steal everything from this year's show and not credit the creators, but still.
Also, its ironic that Ms. Diaz lost the role of Cassie to that box office dynamo Charlotte D'Amboise and Meredith lost the role of Val to that uber-star Jessica Lee Goldyn. That have a right to be angry!!!!!

It is such a double standard that theater people love seeing their own kind on hit television shows (Audra McDonald, Sara Ramirez, Taye Diggs, etc) but cannot accept actors from other media in the theatre? Also, we must consider the fact that these "Hollywood" actors are taking severe pay cuts to work on Broadway as opposed to shooting a movie, so its not as if they are doing it for the money. If they come to Broadway and happen to be more talented than Chris Seiber, then so be it.
Is this about the stick to broadway stars campaign I think having movie stars is a good thing but I think Idol winners should stick to signing not theatre its kind of wrong they get lead parts in musicals . A small part fine but then they would have to work their way up . It is just so annoying .
there are those who are strictly part of the stage and Theatre industries and those who are strictly part of the film and television industries. but when bringing the two together the ones strictly in the film industry are just as equally qualified to be on broadway as those strictly on stage is to be on tv or film. all who one this year gave pretty deserving and exceptional performances. There all actors and it's saddened to know that people are not treated equally.

Again, WHO CARES what someone's background is as long as they have the talent to back them up? Why does there have to be some definitive rule about where Idol winners should or should not be and having small roles vs. larger roles?
I haven't seen Fantasia in Color Purple, but didn't someone in one of these threads praise her Tony performance?

Hunter just called me and said that all the members of the Broadway Community who have appeared in the following movies and tv shows have to burn their Equity cards:
(1) Sex and the City 2 (2) any Law and Order spin-offs (3) Princess and the Frog (4) Randy Blue
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

It seems like Broadway actors want Broadway to be what it once was-the path to becoming a household name and a legend. It don't work that way anymore. If an actor starts on Broadway and makes their living from theatre, the hard truth is that they will never get any recognition unless they graduate to a long running sitcom or a hit film. The days of a Streisand, Kelly, Merman, LuPone, and Peters are long gone. You just don't cross over like that anymore.
The Hunters and Jens will never be known and its sad and I understand their frustration. You can bust your hump and give 120% on the boards and no one (other than theatre fans) will ever know you. People won't recognize you, you might get booted off the red carpet, etc.
It's just the nature of the business now. There's no going back.

I think (4) Randy Blue should be exempt. Those straight guys acting gay is very hard work.

I was gonna list Glee in jest but it seems there has been few stones cast on Lea and Matt for taken minutes from the Tonys for their performances that had little to do with the rest of the telecast. I guess there was goodwill a they returned to their roots doing what they began and have grown into stars, almost like what BettyBoy said. But they forget the fact their targets started on the stage. I guess once they get too big for their britches and come back much later it enters CZJ/Denzel realm.
I love THAT GUY Jordan. I can't believe he's straight.

And I think it is funny that Patterson lets everyone know on her blog, right after criticizing the Hollywood community for taking over the Tonys, that she just auditioned for a new TV series created by Steven Spielberg. Hmmm...
It amazes me that she doesn’t see how big of a hypocrite she is being.
Bettyboy,I think the difference is that 1) Jen Cody spent several months in LA this year trying desperately to be a movie star (i.e., she didn't spend that time in NYC pursuing the noble endeavor of the stage) and 2) Hunter Foster and Jen Cody seemed to start this whole craziness because THEY WANTED TO WALK THE RED CARPET at the Tonys, which is nothing more than movie star ridiculousness. I mean, I would have some sympathy if this was some movement that had, at its heart, the best interests of "the fabulous invalid", but no. This seemed to come about by a couple of journeymen who wanted to be treated as some kind of latter day Lunt-Fontannes, and then unleashed their facebook "friends" to follow their lead in trashing the nominees and presenters that got to walk the red carpet. I mean, that's just sad.
Betty, he wasn't so straight last weekend. But that's another story that set me back $300.
Angela Lansbury told Chris Rockway that in her new role as great grandmother of the American Theater Wing, she is going to give retroactive Tonys to Julia Roberts, Ali MacGraw, Daniel Craig, Elizabeth Taylor, Julianne Moore, and Jude Law.
And since Denis O'Hare was on True Blood tonight -- Angie's going to kick in another Tony for him, too.
