I think it has been clear for months that there are 2 other shows that are the main competition for Best Revival, and other performers the leading favorites for best actor.

The best that will come from this production is a new cast recording, that may make the show better known once it circulates widely, and/or gets onto the radar of Tik Tok kids across the country. Jordan should continue to do well touring, and we may see more regional productions of FC.

So much advance planning goes into producing a revival like this & as much as they might hope to reach an a audience,  sometimes - unfortunately - it just doesn't match the zeitgeist.  Ostentatious & shallow shows are what sell.

Kudos to Jordan for leaving a sure thing, & probably better pay, in Great Gatsby for something more artistic. But, I think kudos & all around are all he will get for this - no big award.

There is very good availability every night for this show and he's touring with his band starting next month. Everyone who wanted to see it mostly has by now so it really has no reason to extend. This is not My Fair Lady nor is it Camelot. This will close when they stated it will unless something happens where there is a huge surge of interest, which the Tonys won't do for this one.

I thought this was incredibly moving and extremely well done. I really loved the minimalist set as presented. I am a huge Adam Guettel fan, so definitely biased, but this score is simply transcendent and rich and the orchestrations were sublime. Taylor Trensch was a standout, and, having never seen Jeremy Jordan live, was amazed at Floyd’s characterization.

Side-note: Cannot wait to have “And She’d Have Blue Eyes” on the OBCR.

Well, this is better than Gatsby, but I don’t think that’s saying a lot. It’s just so dreary and dull. Jeremy Jordan, obviously, and Jason Gotay were very good, but the show itself just isn’t.

I had no idea Nellie was supposed to be going crazy until they literally said it. How Tina Landau could allow Lizzy MacAlpine to perform the character that way is beyond me, and I don’t get the appeal of Taylor Trensch. There were a handful of young people in the audience clearly there for Jeremy (one was wearing a Newsies T-shirt) and Lizzy. Can’t imagine that they loved this past seeing their faves in person. Man, I really hope Lincoln Center gives Ragtime more life than this one.

I liked seeing this a lot. I don’t think I like the show itself but it is pretty fascinating. And I really like the way they’ve chose to stage this-minimal but with specific interesting choices that elevate the action. I think I’m now rooting for Jeremy to win.

I've learned that you can't make a persuasive case for this show and its production to those for whom it's a non-starter. This is a niche piece, as filled to the brim with Americana tropes as it is. This small scale tragedy about one man's hubristic error and its consequences just feels precious and inconsequential to some, and I accept that. To me, the searing pain in this story's trajectory - so eloquently manifest in the arc from "The Call" to "When Glory Goes," is the stuff of a perfect human-scaled folk tale. And it breaks my heart, beginning to end. It's filled with narrative surprises, like the bravura act closer, "The Riddle Song," that soars but in a direction slightly arc adjacent, making past prologue. And late we get "Through the Mountain," a pre-11 o'clock spot counterpoint, an art song interpolated to alter the prism, and we experience the nearly ebbed life via startling new poetry ("sky lit up with roses and lemons," "babies dancin' with banjoes in the air..."). It wrecks me. So I'm going again this Wednesday, knowing I'm unlikely to see another production of Floyd Collins in NY in my lifetime.

I like to think that the opposite is going to happen.  This production will lead to a cast recording that can not help but be outstanding, and that it will generate interest in future productions.  Perhaps not in New York, but certainly at reputable regional theaters.

Of course, I don't know how old you are.  For what it's worth, I am no spring chicken myself.

I sure hope this is the case as I love the show, but the dearth of productions after the original staging and the somewhat muted critical and sales response to this one might discourage others from staging it.

It breaks my heart when people say the show isn't a good show. I thought this was so lovely, and small, and quiet and heartbreaking through and through. Auggie27 sums it up perfectly.

I will agree that it has its slow moments, but so what? I'll also agree that I was a little disappointed by Lizzy's direction. I also wish it was in a shoebox theater.

But I more than enjoyed myself and we are truly so spoiled to be able to hear a score as brilliant as this one.

Who saw Zak Resnick’s Floyd debut today?

Oh look, a bibu!

I thought Zak was pretty remarkable. That voice is just like butter and as he was nearing the end of his journey, it really looked like he was on his last leg.

Also, truly so impressed by Taylor Trensch on this second watch. This role on paper could have easily faded into the background, but Trensch has made the role a highlight.

I had tickets for Tuesday and got a refund with Jeremy out. I bought tickets for Thursday . Couldn’t get the same seats but paid less.

Though Resnick was breathtaking. A glorious, full voice that sounded like heaven singing this material. I know Zak as a big riffer, but he was incredibly restrained and delved into the heart of the material. His physicality struck me as potentially stronger than Jordan's, though emotionally I give the edge of Jeremy as he's had more time with the material. But vocally? Neck and neck potentially with Resnick just slightly edging him out.

And completely agree with InTheBathroom1. Thought Trensch was outstanding back in previews, but now he's the beating heart and soul of the entire production. Would be beyond thrilled if he pulled off a Tony win.

Still not wild on Landau's direction or Gotay's performance. But a really wonderful afternoon hearing this music.

Did Resnick sing the score with twang? I think that's what's missing from Jeremy's voice.

Lizzy McAlpine, 2 months into the run: a much debated performance this season, or rather debated piece of casting, starting with earliest previews. I returned to the Beaumont this afternoon, as noted, knowing it's unlikely I'll ever see a comparably lavish Floyd in NYC in my lifetime. The production is in pristine shape, Jordan at the top of his game, to my ears even more vocally impressive than in previews. I was especially impressed with McAlpine's development over two months. Not a seriously trained actor, but an indie vocalist, McAlpine seems to have worked hard, observing, learning. It's now a touching, fully committed performance and characterization, well integrated, enhanced by her confidence. Her "Through the Mountain" is exquisite.

I finally got to see this today.  It was just tortuous for me. Just couldn’t wait for it to end.

I'm genuinely asking this, not trying to be snarky or smart-a$$, but were you familiar with the show beforehand? To me, it's a very niche, cult-classic musical and I wonder if the disappointment many had was due to their unfamiliarity with the material. Just curious!

No I had never seen it before. I did not care for the music in The Days of Wine and Roses but adored Piazza. In fact I just came back from seeing Piazza in Boston last week. I like Americana and heard that the music was more Americana but it just didn’t work for me. I sat in row B, great seats, and could make out maybe 35% of the lyrics. If poor enunciation is “niche” then shame on me for not knowing.

Nothing in this production/the way the sing the score gives a hint of Americana.

"Nothing in this production/the way they sing the score gives a hint of Americana."

Well, maybe a hint.  Broadway has gotten closer to Americana this season in Swept Away (admittedly its songs were not written for the theatre) and Dead Outlaw, and perhaps in past seasons as far back as Big River.   Guettel is aiming closer to Aaron Copland.  Let's just call it "arty Americana."

Lizzy McAlpine sounds more authentically like Americana than the rest of the cast.  That's not a criticism of anyone else.  I treasured how beautifully the score was sung by all.

Lizzy sang the score so beautifully.  The most authentic voice of the season in the best sung show of the season.

Go back to the show again for the 3rd time on 31st May. Spot Cynthia Erivo in the audience and when the show ends I glance back at her. The woman is crying her eyes out.

I'll say this, it's the best show I have ever seen in my life. Now truly the no.1 and I doubt any show can top this one soon.

It's so strange to me that some of the people do not like the show, even hate it. I wish I had a superpower to reach through the screen and slap some sense into their brains but of course, it's gonna be the case of 'everyone has their own opinion.'

It just couldn't make any sense to me how anyone can have complaints about the show. Slow? To me, not slow enough even. Extend the show to 3 hours and I'll be the happiest man ever.

I think people read too much manga these days. They get used to action-packed, fast-moving pace. Or eating food with monosodium glutamate all over that they forget how the ingredients actually taste like.

About Tony. It seem to confirmed from one of the staff's IG that they will do 'the ballad' + 1 song. I think it's probably How Glory Goes.

I love the show, but certainly have no problem understanding the many reasons why others do not share my enthusiasm and none of them have to do with reading manga lol.
