Jersey Boys' set sucked. It just wasn't anything to write home about. It was just....there.
I think Billy Elliot has some ingenious sets, and I love the way they all come on at the beginning, and the exposed brick wall and whatnot. It's beautifully disgusting, if that makes sense.
Billy Elliot has rather bland and uninspired boring sets. Just like the score and rest of the show. How many times can you watch the bedroom come spinning up from the trap? Best set design for a Broadway show is the revival of An Inspector Calls hands down. The same revival is supposed to hit the West End again. Hopefully it will be revived in the same manner on Broadway again.
I thought the set for Drowsy Chaperone was astonishing. I loved it and thought the transitions for the Man's apartment to the actions of the show were incredible.
I also think In The Heights has a really impressive, realistic set.
Does anyone have pictures of the Sweeney Revival back from the 80's. I never found pictures of it and I'm extremely curious.
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
I havn't seen the current run of THE WIZ. But in the Broadway Beat video at the end they show a clip at the end. There's a huge "fabric backdrop" and the frame of the house is built in front of it. And (I assume during the tornado scene) the back drop was ripped down, leaving the house.
My favorite part of August: Osage County was in the third act, I think, where they use lights and focus them on different parts of the house. It's like a mini-montage thing. I loved that.
