Plenty of time to do a limited run play before November, surely!

Yes, this was supposed to open in the spring.
I won't be surprised if the Shubert sits empty, but I'd like to see it host a play."
It's also worth noting the Catholic Church apologized for Galileo's conviction in 1993. So, not sure why telling that tale and deeds they apologized for would be anti Christian.
Also, very much agree and comments about the strong score, direction and Raul being brilliant. I imagine they've worked on it since Berkeley.

Having seen both I can tell you that Galileo is LEAGUES better than QoV. The only main criticisms I had for Galileo is that it needed better choreography and the book needs to be tightened up, but other than that the songs are fun and catchy (esp Two Sides and Heaven's Changing) and the story is easy to follow. QoV was hot garbage."
Opening night is December 6.

The vultures seem to circle faster and faster nowadays.
When I saw this two years ago at Berkeley Rep, I didn't quite know what to think of it. It's not something I would normally check out but I enjoyed the score a lot, I think it does a pretty good job portraying complicated characters and their motivations. I figured it would come to Broadway since a lot of people may be interested in these subjects. Raul was charming and in beautiful voice as always, but I wondered how the score over time could damage his voice. If it doesn't work out with him Will Chase, Andy Karl, and Steven Pasqaule could all destroy Heaven's Changing. What an absolute banger. I wish them luck, especially with that big ass theater. And Joy Woods is such a star, so the casting couldn't be better.

I think mostly we are just confused as to why a big musical that got across to board mixed to negative reviews (both critically and on Reddit, etc.) out of town is coming to Broadway. It just seems like such a waste of money, hence the comparisons to Queen of Versailles.

Not so much that it's coming to Broadway, but that it's opening 7 months before the Tonys, in one of Broadway's larger houses, and its success will almost singlehandedly ride on the performance of someone whose drawing power has his limits.
On paper, I think QoV would have been a better proposition given the team and the star. But who knows, maybe we'll all be surprised!
It has deep-pocketed producers, but even the wealthiest people can't keep a show running indefinitely at a loss.
I can't wait until they take the lessons learned from out of town and improve on it for Broadway...
Just kidding. They never change anything anymore.
So what do we think will open at the Schubert in February 2027?

I watched the trailer online and it reminds me of all those les mis wannabe historical epic type shows that popped up in the 90s and 00s. Mixed with a bit of Aida.
Is there much market for that these days 🤷♂️
This will mark the long-awaited Broadway debut of composer Zoe Sarnak
By whom, exactly?

I don't know, but maybe Joy and Jeremy can find their way back to Skid Row soon.
So once this closes after opening this will free Joy for Dreamgirls

My partner saw this at Berkeley Rep and echoed a lot of what other people have posted. He said the score and cast were very strong but the book wasn’t quite ready. They’ve had 2 years so hopefully it’s done some tightening.
Also- very disappointed in people who claim to support wanting “original musicals” already bashing this show. All of Sondheim’s shows weren’t perfect either, so even if the book still isn’t fixed, isn’t it exciting Zoe Sarnak will be making her Broadway debut and Raul Esparza is returning to Broadway in an original musical? Let’s keep our glasses half full, y’all!

This could end up being one of the best new musicals in a bit to arrive in NY, and still nobody would come.
This still doesn't really explain the sudden closure of HK, though?
Yeah, I can't figure that one out.

I should have been clearer. I was only referencing the post preceding mind that said it will close in a week. I wold not have transferred this to Broadway based on what I saw in CA, but it I imagine it will last longer than a week.

This sounds like a huge flop. Who, except some musical fans, are going to see this? Producers sure like to throw their money away on Broadway.
I’m obviously thrilled to have Esparza back on Broadway, but I will also be making sure to see this… quickly.

Why is everyone here suddenly so concerned with producers "wasting money" or "throwing money away" on new works? Broadway is a losing business, for the most part. Producers know this. Why do you all care? I swear, every time a new show is announced, every one on this board acts like they manage these people's financial portfolios.
