I really like the costume. It's different than the design(s) I've seen used in other productions of the musical, but is still evocative enough of the 'classic' Pan costume so as to not feel out of place (IMO, anyway). I also like the wig they've given her.
I can't wait to see what costume designer Catherine Zuber does for the rest of the characters.
So far I love the casting, especially O`Hara and Borle as Mr & Mrs.Darling. The only thing I am worried about is a 70 year old Walken as Hook. Flubs seems inevitable.
That being said, I do believe that no matter who's in the cast the show is going to be criticized, and also there might be a drop in the rates of viewers. Although a fan of Live television musicals not a fan of the piece.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
It is likely not THE costume they will use, just a quick mock up. They have time.
And wow....what an ageist thing to say: he'll automatically mess up because he's 70? Think of all the people we see live, 8 shows a week, doing just fine: Angela Lansbury and all the women that have been playing Bethe (all in their mid to late 60s)
Sheesh. The man is a professional, through and through, I think he's earned respect.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Actually, that image IS the official 'first look' for Walken's Hook, so, yes, it is what they're using, and I personally think it looks great. Catherine Zuber's 2 for 2 so far on the costuming choices she's made for the show.
Best quotes: "Judging by his outfit, Peter Pan is the naughtiest Bennigan's waiter of all time." "Allison is here to prove that "Peter Pan" is shorthand for "Young Peter Gallagher in a Kohl's Catalog.""
And my favorite...
"Peter Pan is a Boy Scout whose only merit badge is in Moisturizing."
Not the biggest fan of the spandex, but it is difficult to build an accurate Pan costume in the materials outlined by Barrie - autumn leaves, cobwebs, sap and skeleton leaves.. As far as the mesh, I see nothing wrong with it.
Hoped for more? More what? I am confused by that.
It is far more accurate to what Pan might wear than a well tailored tunic and tights, which is the opposite of what Barrie wanted and not at all what was worn in the original 1904 stage production.
I enjoy that a bunch of the lost boys are Newsies. But what's with all the mermen? Unless they're expanding the marooner's rock scene there's about 10 seconds in the musical when it is appropriate to have mer-people onstage at all.
Actually, there are several moments where it would be appropriate to have mer creatures, but the musical doesn't traditionally use them as they would be more passive elements of the scene and harder to achieve... And Rigby hates hiring actors.
Is it common to call the Indians Islanders now or is it a new concept for this telecast? Are they going to alter the text and always refer to them as Islanders?
