I agree. An entire semester on HAIR?? Really? An entire semester can be spent on "Sunday in The Park With George" or most other Sondheim musicals. But I don't think Hair has enough that is worth spending 4-5 full months on.

I love how suprised people are with Diana's vocals. She is an amazing singer, and I guess you have to see her live before you realize that. I saw her, and was BLOWN away.

^When I saw her in the national tour of "Brooklyn" she oversang nearly every song.

LOL "Streetsinger" and "Once Upon a Time" are written for the sole purpose of being "oversang." The songs are belters songs not meant for a subdued performance so she actually sang them as intended. And brought the house down most nights.
Did any of those who attended see Diana at the stage door? I'm curious to know if she remarked at all about how she felt the first night went.

Yeah, her singing in BKLYN completely fit with what BKLYN was. Plus, to me oversinging is...well, what Shoshana Bean does in everything. Have you heard her "I Believe in Love" from Hair?
Considering this is a huge cast change, I'm not surprised the cast hasn't completely gelled yet. I think these next few weeks should be looked at similarly to how one would with a new show's previews. Apparently the cast was still in rehearsals today so I'm sure they got lots of feedback from last night.

Eden Espinosa has so much more control over her voice. Her version of "Once Upon a Time" is always a joy to listen to. When I saw Diana I had to cover my ears because her last notes were way too loud. I was disappointed with her because I saw her in the 2004 Idols tour and thought she sang very well. I felt she was trying too hard in "Brooklyn."

I found this on youtube. It's an interview with Ace but also has footage from last night's show, specifically Donna.

God bless 'em.
He seems really comfortable in that interview.
Totally. Do you think he will think I'm weird if I sit front row with my opera glasses?

Diana's breasts were underwhelming. LOL

the new cast
I love Ace, but let's be honest, the singing in that interview was horrible!!! Cute bum though!

i loved the old cast and watched the show many times,i may well go and see them in london in august but i am staying open minded about the new cast. im going to see the show in 3 weeks , i think diana will do well but i wasnt sure about ace to start with but will let them settle in first, then will have an opinion!!
I loved Nicole when I saw her as Abraham Lincoln.
as for this new cast... i have not seen them, but I will. I saw the other show twice. I will be seeing the original revival cast in London first however. (any idea exaclty how long they are at the Gielgud?) I cannot picture Ace as Berger. not ever...even if he improves.sorry. Will Swenson was fab and apparently Bryce did well with it too. I loved Caissie Levy's understudy when i saw her (but not as much as Levy - she is my star) I do want to see Diana's take and she can sing. but that role needs some pretty powerful emotion and acting too. does she pull that off?? I also saw Paris Remillard as Claude and he was just fine. i thought maybe he would move into the role. I am glad they got a comparable Hud, because Darius Nichols is absolutely phenomenal!!
I only saw Vanessa as Chrissy and sadly missed Allison. I really like Vanessa though.
thanks for all the comments on the new cast. i shouldn't be so not into change with it all. people move on, but i loved Gavin, Caissie, Will, Andrew, etc...so so much.
Gavin and Caissie are so supportive watching their understudies and the rest of the cast. i sat behind them. talked to them and it was like they were watching it for the first time. nice.
i do. if you take the depths of the war into it and the racism and the way things were then. absolutely. then there are the lyrics and placement.
I don't know much about Ace Young, and have never seen him in anything before. But in that interview, he was utterly charming! Seems like a good Berger match.

I agree with you. Should give it time.

I haven't seen the new cast (and I probably won't), but I'm confident that they will grown into their roles. That being said, I thought that the interview with Ace was freaking boring (other than the show clips). Did anyone notice that Diana was smiling during the Flesh Failures in the BWW photo flask? Yikes....

I think you might be confusing "Flesh Failures/Let The Sun Shine In" with curtain call.

Why, what's wrong with you?

Nothing is wrong with me. I really like Ace Young. It is just my opinion, which i am entitled to. I am also not alone. That comment was however a little definate. I will probably feel differently when I see him
How did Annaleigh Ashford... sing... in the Act 1 finale?
