I can't wait to read the reviews, I hope it's across the boards positive. :)

I just did. The general consensus on the other board is underwhelming. I enjoyed it immensely the two times I saw it, and negative reviews can't take that away from me.

WSJ is up, although its behind a paywall.
The title - ‘Hello, Dolly!’ Review: Disaster Despite a Diva
Not unusual, as Talkin'Broadway doesn't like anything and Terry Teachout seems to think he is above everything that wasn't his Louis Armstrong play.
I always look forward to Jesse Green's reviews. I would also be interested in Michael Musto's opinion, as he knew Bette from her Bathhouse Betty days.

Here's the link, if anyone is a subscriber.
I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind calling this production a "disaster," There's absolutely nothing disastrous about it. I'd love to know how Teachout justifies that headline, or if he's trolling.
Seems like trolling since it was posted way before the other reviews will be out.

They did that on purpose. How desperate for the WSJ! Wish someone would cut and paste it cause I would never give that conservative rag a dime.

I have to confess...the idea that this wouldn't be universally adored by critics is frankly...stunning to me. Just didn't occur to me based on friend's reviews (not seeing it myself until June).
Totally confused what to make of that negative Teachout review. First semi-negative word I've heard from ANYBODY about the show.
Also, why is it out so early?
I just peered in the mirror-world of ATC and was shocked by a thread criticizing the production as being tired and lifeless.

Do we really have to keep pretending that Terry Teachout has any credibility? This is a man who said "Dinosaurs" was the best part of War Paint. Wake me when a real critic posts their review.

Very true! He says stuff like that to get a reaction...such a wanna be writer and director. What a tool! Haha!

Can someone cut and paste it here for us to read?
I'm pretty sure it's copyright infringement to copy and paste an entire review.
Much of the negative criticism on ATC seems to come from people tirelessly comparing this production to the original.
Treachout is frequently an outlier. I expect the critical consensus will be overwhelmingly positive.

Maybe but he is a smart critic . I really respected his mix review on GD. And I love Tim Minchin.

Should I bitchslap all the critics that hated Groundhog Day? Or should I notice this is a DEMOCRACY where FREE SPEECH Happens!

Freedom of speech protects you from the government, not from Dollypop.
With all the crap going on in the world today, I NEED Dolly and I NEED Bette, even if for "just a moment".
