Tumblr, around the end of 2015. I didn't really start getting into the show until a couple of months ago, so I too am very late in the game...and definitely sad I didn't know about it sooner.
It was from a one of these threads a few years back asking what happened to Lin and some mentioned he was working on a musical about one of the founding fathers. In my mind it sounded like a massive flop.... Shows how right I was.
I heard about it when it was at the public, At first I thought it sounded dumb, but when the cast recording came out I listened to the first song and I fell in love.
The White House Lin performance was the first I heard about Hamilton and then the first I heard about the show was either through here or Jon Stewart.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

In a history class back in 2013, our teacher made us listen to Lin's White House performance. I already knew and loved Lin from In The Heights and have been following the show ever since. As someone who knew about the show a good deal of time before it became successful, it's been so cool watching people fall in love with it and watching people who had never been interested in musical theatre give it a chance because of Hamilton.
Why don't we have a "like" button here on BWW? These posts are hilarious!
I was one of those doubters who thought Hamilton sounded like a terrible idea. But people here were posting, "Don't miss this." I guess some had been to the Vassar summer workshop or saw the Lincoln Center show. Anyway, I bought myself a ticket very reluctantly. I had just seen Fortress of Solitude at the Public and didn't much care for it. I figured Hamilton would be another miss, but for $50 I would take the chance. Right after that, the show really started causing a frenzy, but I remember people posting here, toward the beginning of the Public run, "There are a couple of good seats available for next week... "How I miss those days!
I saw it again Saturday for the fifth time, and the show is just as thrilling as ever!

Yes! I have so loved watching the journey of this show from its beginning and seeing Lin reach all this success.
October 13, 2015. A meeting at work with a semi-retired partner who casually mentioned that he had just seen this "modern" musical about a founding father. I immediately assumed he meant Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson but he went on to say it was about Alexander Hamilton and featured rap and hip-hop. Given his age and usual interests I was surprised that he liked it so much, so I figured I should check it out myself at some point. Then I promptly forgot about it until early December when my daughter independently discovered the show and started listening to the cast recording continuously. I then remembered what the partner had said, and the quest for tickets began.
From this board back around beginning of 2015. Started to see the topic pop up often. Then read about its planned transfer and forgot about it until after it opened on Bway. It's funny how for a while, seats were still available as long as you were willing to wait 10+ months out. Even earlier availability at the onset, after all, only so many people knew about it (i.e. theater lovers/Lin fans).
Oh little did we know that we should have snatched those seats up! I missed out because I wasn't willing to pay those prices (little did *I* know!). Anyway, I said I would wait many years to see it if necessary... one year almost down!
I mean, the craze will eventually die down... :) While still highly popular shows, people don't kill themselves over trying to get Wicked tix or Book of Mormon tix anymore. Longevity helps too -- as long as people realize shows will stick around and they will continue to have a chance to see it, they get less crazy about it.
I heard about it back in '09 when the White House video came out. Then they used a space in the building where I went to school for the last workshop, so then we heard they'd be heading to the Public, where I saw it first! Best thing I've ever seen in my life.
I read about it here first. The message boards are what I love about this site...you read an article...and then come the opinions!! That's what's missing on the P site and the reason I come here first now.
I'll never forget the day I became exposed to the magical world of HAMILTON and all its glorious goodness. I was sitting on the toilet pushing out a big one and there, like a beacon in the night, Lin-Manuel appeared and commanded, "go forth, ye ****ter. spread the love of HAMILTON to all who deny."
After seeing this video I went and watch the white-house performance. Then I had a friend who went to the Vasser performance, and raved about it. I remember him saying it was one of the best things he's ever seen and I just went "huh. Interesting." I listened to the bootleg of the Vasser reading. I found it interesting but couldn't really experience it fully.
When they announced the Public run in the Spring of 2014, I was ecstatic! I looked forward to it all year. Finally saw it for the first time in the 3rd week of previews at the Public on my THIRD attempt at the in-person lotto. Oh how times change.
LOL! I started this thread and want to thank everyone who shared their stories. Enjoyed reading how some knew someone or learned here on BW and those who thought out stories that were pure fantasy and others that sounded biblical!
