It's reported that she's the front-runner for the London production.

But why is no one excited about Philip Quast!?
Neverming, I know why.

Philip Quast! Yaaaaaay! Love the man!
Nard, you know I love Philip, and almost everyone on the Les Miz 10th Anniv. Concert. So I'm excited for him.
And of course very excited for Idina as well.
If Madonna is the only other option I think that it would be tragic if Idina did not get this role. Madonna simply cannot compare to Idina vocally. That being said, Madonna has much more marketing power simply because everyone knows her and she did play Evita in the movie version. I think that the only reason it may even be a close "race" so to speak would be because of Idina's amazing voice.
I'm sure Menzel is the backup if Madonna doesn't take the role. Last time I checked, Madonna sold a lot more tickets than Ms. Idina.
Maybe Madonna will get the part and Idina will understudy.
Why not? It would be good for Idina. She would still get a chance to play the part and learn from watching Madonna do the role.
shouldn't the role go to some famous British soap star or something? I mean, if it has to go to someone famous... not that Idina is famous... if evita was being revived on Broadway I could see them considering Idina, but not London. Madonna would sell tickets but has she ever expressed interest in playing the role on-stage?
I looooove Philip Quast!! As for Idina and Madonna - no to both.
I won't even touch the "Idina learning from Madonna comment" or the understudy one.
What I will say is that I hope this does not happen. I want them to go with a completely unknown vocal powerhouse, but one with acting ability. Acting ability, to me, is essential, for this role, but the person also has to have that star quality and be able to hit the notes as written.
Plus, selfishly, I am not in the mood for months of squealing 12 year olds asking who is Eva Peron, where is Argentina, and what is a descamisado, for reasons other than wanting to learn about history.
I can see it now- "so was like, ummm, Juan Peron, like, ummmm, a dictator or something?"
Amen, KC.
Word, KChenofan. And I think you're giving the teeny-boppers too much credit to even be curious about Juan's historic significance, or even know what a "dictator" is. ("Like, he recites stuff so people can type it?")
I wake up every morning and say to myself: "Today I plan to learn something from Madonna..."

I think it's weird that the two front-runners are Idina and Madonna... I am excited for Philip Quast though, and I hope he gets the role. I don't think that Madonna should be Eva Peron again, I thought she was awful the first time... and so I see no polnt to her even being onstage. I have no idea if Idina would be good or not, but I don't live in London... so it wouldn't really make too much of a difference to me.
To the teeny-boppers: think about this before you get all excited... she will NOT be in NYC if she is in London, so you will not see her on Broadway, unless Evita moves from London to NYC.

Is this production expected to come to Broadway?
I would imagine if it's a hit in London, it'll come to Bway right??

I just don't think Idina can sing the part 8 times a week for a year (assuming). If her voice got hoarse during Wicked, I would hate to see what Evita would do to it, unless she learns not to screech so much.
The role should go to Alice Ripley before she gets too old to play it.
*I'm* excited about Pnilip Quast! he's got one of the richest voices I've EVER heard. If he and Idina are in this together, I may die of extreme happiness.
Which would be bad, since I wouldn't be able to see it . . . or at least hear the cast album.
*faints*
since it's a legit revival I hope they have Tim Rice revise the lyrics for "The Lady's Got Potential" and "Eva's Sonnet" from the concept CD and add them back into the show... that would be cool.
