Is Ben Vereen a Brit then?
I think you can read that quote in two ways though. It's not clear as a bell but I think it's open to intepretation when he says "Stone said performers will be British, including “two great actresses” and “people that you definitely know” in the supporting roles of the Wizard and Madame Morrible."
It's easy to take that to mean his reference to the British performers applies only to "two great actresses" and that "people you definitely know" is an additional casting note, unrelated to "performers will be British."

I think she would be too afraid of being mauled by a whole new set of fangirls to do Wicked in London.
Performers will be British is pretty obviously referring to the fact that the whole cast will be made up of British people. There's nothing additional about what he says regarding Morrible and the Wizard.
I was at launch today at The Victoria Park Plaza and NO casting was mentioned - questions were asked but things seems "hush" But David did rule out Broadway (previous/current) coming to London but did it rule out it would mainly be a new British audience.
Id be suprised if Idina came here as David seemed keen to do a UK cast recording - so what would point id Idina came to the UK.
I do know for a fact however that Adam Garcia has been cast, Ben (current Wizard on Broadway) will be the original UK wizard and Elaine Paige has been approached to do Madamme Morrible
Interesting how David Stone apparently ruled out Broadway cast coming over yet you know FOR A FACT that Ben Vereen is going to be the London Wizard.

I'm going to call Idina and ask her.
Well, it may be the case that Ben gets cast. But what I think Poppy is trying to get at is, Stone said performers will be British, including “two great actresses” and “people that you definitely know” in the supporting roles of the Wizard and Madame Morrible.
"Including" would imply that the British cast would encompass the two great actresses AND "'people that you definitely' know in the supporting roles...".
Thank you Tiff. It seems very straightforward to me, I can't imagine why I had such a hard time spelling it out.
You're welcome, Poppy. I had a hard time spelling it out - I was going to throw in pretentious grammar words but I wouldn't know what I was talking about. I thought the statement just spoke for itself.
Will you be seeing this production? I'm buying a pair of West End tickets for my parents' anniversary when they're in London in early October - can't choose between this or Evita.

No one said that you had to read this entire thread, or reply to it Emcee.
This news came fron the Dress Circle board and a posted who has been correct about every bit of casting for the last god knows how many years. However it appears there has been some identity theft going on and may not be true. ie someone has posted using his ID. If further details emerge and its from the real person that you can take that as gospel.
Sadly jumped the gun. I DO NOT APPRECIATE BEING CALLED "FULL OF CRAP" by popculture boy....what a intolerant f*ck wit.
As for the whole British cast... Adam Garcia is not British and he is playing Fiyero. Its open to interpretation whether or not that statement refers to the lead parts or just the supporting roles. Its quite possible it applies to a Glinda and Morrible being cast with well known British actresses.
Official announcement in May.
Well, my guess is she was offered LOTS of money to do this, probably more than she would be as Evita. I also think the time commitment they asked for was probably shorter than Evita.
can u imagine all the people who live in the US being like ahh mommy mommy i gotta go to london to see Idina Menzel play ELPHABA! COME ON, PLEAAAAASE!
oy vey
A bigger oy vey to the hapless parents who WOULD take those spoiled little brats across the pond.
If further details emerge and its from the real person that you can take that as gospel.
Er, no. Once the official announcement is made in May, then we can take THAT as gospel.
And you know, all this gubbins about it being someone on another message board who's always right but someone hacked in to his login and posted the Idina casting stuff is all a bit late in the day. Your original post makes it sound like you know for a fact what's happening when you really truly don't. So yeah. You're full of crap.

Um, that is quite amusing coming from someone who appears to be a bit Idina obsessed.
Take them to see Evita, Tiff. Pretty much the only ALW I can stand, plus it has the added bonus of Philip Quast. Who is close to being god-like, in my opinion. And we all know how much that counts for in this world
The "only" ALW? You can't stand JCS? Oh dear.
Yeah, good point - plus my parents like ALW, and I think even Wicked would be considered beneath them.
Probably not. She declined Evita because she wasn't ready for a movie to London. Odds are that she won't be for Wicked.
I love that the original poster, in light of new information, has changed the exclamation point to a question mark in the subject title.
Way to make assumptions!
type_a_tiff, if any parent agreed to dish out money to take their little idina obsessed child across the pond to see her would need to be put away because they're only making it worse for the rest of us.
like the rest of you, i highly doubt idina would do it.
Hmmm... well if this is true, then I will have to go see her again. But it seems highly unlikely.
