""the gays love their presents. just wave something shiny in front of their faces, you can get whatever you want. Thats how we got manhattan from the gay indians" -Karen (W&G)"
Dottie...I'd say it's possible it won't- Chitty didn't do that well here because American kids aren't as attached to the movie, and I don't know that the Wizard of Oz is as well-known in England as it is here. But there's a LOT of hype around Wicked. I could see it going either way.
Regarding Idina- If anyone hears anything official, please post it. Updated On: 2/2/06 at 11:18 AM
probably the worst possible wishful thinking rumor type!
If she does, great for her (and for the London audience I guess since they won't have to suffer one of the 'let's-just-see-how bad-I-can-mistreat-that-part-before-blowing-one-of-my-arteries- screaming-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-at-the-end-of-Defying-Gravity- AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA' Elphabas... )
I'd like to know where you heard that though. I suscribe to a lot of West End news sites and to the Wicked UK site and I haven't heard about it... and don't say someone posted that on a livejournal, please?
or maybe Universal doesn't get enough hype for the advanced sales and they leaked the rumor on a well chosen girly board! (bad Zoot!)
"What book of rules says that theatre exists only within some ugly buildings crowded into one square-mile of New York City? Wherever there's magic and make-believe and an audience, there's theatre..."
"While casting is not expected to be announced until mid-May – open auditions started today – Stone said performers will be British, including “two great actresses” and “people that you definitely know” in the supporting roles of the Wizard and Madame Morrible"
yeah... ka-ching or not... I don't see her returning to a part she's desperately trying to break away from for a 15 week run... I mean... c'mon people... weeks of rehearsal AGAIN for a 3 month run just when she's working on a CD?
I think Universal is using the cheapest method of the book to inflate those sales!

Ben Vereen is opening the show as The Wizard. Megan Hilty confirmed this at the stage door to some fans, and Jen Waldman also told me this is true.
Haven't heard anything else casting wise...
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
